The other day a freind calls me and tells me he has a handgun he would like to sell (as he usually does when he needs a price estimate on anything firearm related). My normal response is what does he have and what does he is trying to get for it. I had been expecting the usual s&w or taurus but not today, he tells me he has a 38 and he would like to get 250 for it as it was just part of a trade he had made and his new 686p was the real prize and he had no need for an old run down 38. I asked him what it was and he replied "it says it's a ruger service six" before he could finish his sentance I told him I was on my way over.

I inspected it on fouind everything about it was near perfect on it espeacialy for being 36 years old. So I finally get to the range today and decided to put 100 rounds through it, placed all types of targets from 10 to 50 yards. First shot I take at the 50 yard target just to see how it does and to my amazement it puts a hole right next to the x at the center of the target. My wife sees this and I think it was love at first sight. she spent the rest of the time at the range shooting it and had about the same luck with her shots as I did with the first one. Now she wants me to help her find a new holster for it, she would like to use it as her new carry weapon.

pictures on video should be coming sometime later, if I don't forget :neener:

Do I get to be the first to say "Pictures or it didn't happen"???

Joking. I love the Security Six, Service Six, and Speed Six guns. The GP-100 is a great gun also but I just love the SS series guns.

Great deal!! All the sixes are great values. Most shot extremely well as far as one cared to shoot them. The earlier models had very nice stocks and the finish and fit were excellent.

I just bought a nice blue 4" 150 prefix Security Six a couple of weeks ago, it'll keep my 2 3/4" Stainless one company. Mine's one of the fixed sight Security Sixes and even though it was roll marked as a .38 Special originally it's been reamed to take .357 at some point in its history. Mine was $326 after fees you made a nice score! I love the feel of the Security Six.

Usually see the security sixes (.357 adj. sights) around me for right around 200. These are in good-great cond. Nothing out of the box perfect. They are built like a tank!

EMC45--if so then you should buy them! I haven't seen a Six for less than $300 for years.

Now she wants me to help her find a new holster for it, she would like to use it as her new carry weapon.

Most K frame holsters will work, apart from the very tightly fitted ones. Galco K frames fit mine fine.

It is threads like this that will drive the price of Security/Service/Speed Sixes higher and higher! Now it is going to cost me more to buy one or two. You guys are driving me nuts, good grief!:D

I used the "Tell the CEO" on Ruger's website to ask him to please consider making a run of the Security and Service Six. Nothing elaborate or fancy; 4" barrel and stainless steel would be fine.

In 1989 I bought an old, Parkerized Speed Six with round butt and the best DA trigger I had ever seen (that includes S&Ws and I am an S&W guy), paid $128.00 for it. I loaned it to my Son a year or so later and still haven't got it back!!!! Reading all the above makes me think I need another one.

Congrats on your Security Six and now you need to buy another one because your wife has taken ownership of the one you just bought. I have a Police Service Six 4 inch and I have had this revolver the longest. I have bought and sold many revolvers Smith and Ruger alike but my Police Service Six is still with me. Its well used but still shoots great.
Enjoy,
Howard

The only drawback, to me, with the Sixes is their weight. Other than that, they are a terrific revolver.

Olclot,

Was it a 4 incher or 2 3/4?

I have the Speed Six .38 2 3/4 and a 4 inch Service Six. Both shoot right on the money with 158gr LSWHPs.

The Speed Six is the one on the left (as is pretty obvious!)

A Security Six (or Service Six) is actually the next gun on my wish list. I love shooting my S&W Mod 64 .38 but I want something that I can still shoot .357's out of if I want and I'm more of a Ruger person anyways. Just holding out for the right one (and for a time when I see it and have the fund for it :D). I'm pretty much set on a stainless model, 4" barrel, with the wood grips.

Congrats on your Security Six and now you need to buy another one because your wife has taken ownership of the one you just bought

actually it was a service six, I am considering picking up a speed six or possibly a 6" security six for my next one

Was it a 4 incher or 2 3/4?

it was a 4"

Post pics of wife!

I was going to but the wife is shy, she asked me not to but I will be posting pics of the speed six later.

also while I was at the range I was lucky enough to run into a class 3 dealer who brought some of his new stuff out to shoot, He was nice enough to let me try some of them out, he let me shoot his mp5 and a couple fal variations, my personal favorite was a fully automatic fal with an 11" barrel :D

I'll probablly pick up another six eventually but I deploy in less than a month so I'll probablly hold off until I get back.

Great revolver. I picked up one in .357 mag about three years back and it is great shooter. Love my Rugers.

The last one I saw was in about 80-85% and it had an asking price of $179.99. That was about a year ago. A couple weeks before that the same shop had one in about 95% and asking price was $225 IIRC. Both were 4in. with Adj. Sights .357s. Both locked up like a safe!

EMC, I want to go shopping with you. Around here, I never see a Six series gun under $300. I've seen some nice ones lately over $400.
