A friend has a mystery. He has an unopened tin of rifle ammo that for some reason he can't/won't open. Here's a couple of px of the markings on the outside of the can;

What's your best guess as to what's inside there. Some guess are, 7.62 X 39 and 7.62 X 54. I hope it's X 54, I'll buy it, then have a bunch of ammo for my Mosin.

looks to be either x54r or x39. Either way it's chinese or some other asian origin. Could also be 7.62x25 but likely it's rifle ammo. What are the measurements of the can?

Small tin, 550 rounds. It's 7.62x39, if I had to guess - especially since it's Chinese. Old Norinco ammo. If you're REALLY lucky, it's steel core! :D

From "Gunboards.com" Greg

Yes, that is Chinese.
The SKS is called the Model 1956 Carbine in China, thus the 56 on the ammo tin.

ummmmmmm, I'm wondering how your friend came across this product without knowing what was in it?

Thanks for the info guys. Apparently it was one of those "if you open it, you bought it." Not knowing what's in it, he didn't want to open it. He has several SKS rifles, so I suppose he'll buy it. But maybe the less I know about it, the better off I am.:scrutiny::uhoh::confused::what::eek:

What did he pay for his mystery can? I am sure some one here (including myself) would be happy to return his investment.

LOL....LOL....LOL....My 1st thought was that it was a export intended can of the infamous product from Austin, Minnesota. Gawd, I can remember those austere days of tomatoe soup and fried Spam. I think right now I'd rather eat the bullets.
