".........where Jamie appears to shoot at Adam in the bottom of a pool with the black shotgun."

PLEASE NO!!!!!!

I hope that it is just some sort of visual effect and not a stupid gun trick......

I heard of a guy doing that to his swimming pool

with a .44 magnum and doing serious damage to the bottom of the pool. Any gun owner would cringe at the thought of having someone behind his intended target and risk possible injury.

(sigh...)

Jamie, Adam- please stop being so $^&*#@ sloppy with your "debunking" techniques.

Great idea for a show, poorly executed.

Aaaargh!

:(

well, if it's coming on tomorrow, i'm sure the episode was shot (no pun intended) in the spring or back in winter. so if somebody won a darwin award, we'd probably have heard about it by now.

even so, no matter how many "hey kids, don't try this at home!" warnings you give, you can expect a fairly significant increase in pool repair calls in July and august.

Honestly I haven't really seen anything that would suggest they put themselves in an unnecessary level of danger. Just because the commercial suggests one might be shooting the other, the few episodes involving guns that I have seen have shown extreme care in terms of gun use. Particularly the one about people being thrown by guns; they had an instructor who was very safe-concious.

Its a camera trick, I played it back on TIVO, it shows the one guy shooting a round into a pool, and switches to the view of the other guy in the pool, but he is diving for lead, and you see him come up a split second later with the rounds.

They ARE NOT shooting eachother from the look of it.

I guess some of you guys don't watch the show. Otherwise there would be no doubt about how safe they are on the show.

The only possible "human like" target would be Buster, their crash test dummy.

They are very, very safety conscious on the show. I do not always agree with their techniques and/or conclusions but they make darn sure no one gets hurt.

To clarify about my earlier "Jamie, Adam- please" outburst:

It's not about this particular episode.
They always seem to do half-a**ed "debunking" and then say MYTH BUSTED!

Case in point- the "e coli on the bathroom toothbrush" episode.
So they use toothbrushes in a bathroom with a toilet, use other toothbrushes in a non-toileted environment, and have unused ones as a control group.

Then after a month, they are all excited to be done with it, and proceed to BRING ALL THE TOOTHBRUSHES INTO THE TOILET ROOM for end footage before sending them to the lab.

Also their "marching across bridge" and "urinating on third rail" episode "debunking" techniques were just laughable, and yet... MYTH BUSTED!

I really, really want to like the show more, and would- if they got their methodological act together.

:(

Sorry I brought it up at all

I only caught a short glimpse of what the up coming weeks show was and then only paid attention when he had a gun in his hands. I would say that they do not do a very good job at the one thing I pride myself in and thats research before they even start the myth busting process. Back in the old episodes they almost always had the Legends girl explain where the myth probably originated. I havent seen that much attention in awhile now.

Caught the episode (repeat) this weekend with the myth of a Civil War getting impregnated by a bullet.

Anywho, the former South SFPD sniper was covering range safety and got first three of the Four Rules, and choked on the fourth one.

My wife came running into the room wondering why as I yelling at the TV, :cuss: because it's defintely not football season.

They are much safer than they appear on the show with editing and all.

But, if they are going to show Scotty and Kari in bikinis they can pretend to suck start each others pistols in the back ground for all I care. I watch the show cause they do some funny stuff and some cool stuff. But Those girls could tie me to...whatever and do myth tests on me.

This is a complete hypothetical situation based on what would happen if I were not married, and my wife did not watch the show too.

I don't mean safety- I mean poor pseudoscientific method!

Danger isn't neccessarily a bad thing for viewing entertainment...

Just for the record I think adam was diving in the pool or what ever to find the slugs and check for damage and I think that jamie was still holding the gun (not realy pointed in any specific direction).

I personaly think they do a fine job of busting some myths. Some things they could do a little more carfully but for the most part they are fine.

I've had issues with that show ever sinse I saw the episode where they tried to mess up police radar.

Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't chaff have to be between the radar and target to be effective. :banghead: As was said above its their method I disaprove of.

PS. Before you tell me not to watch the show if I dislike it so, guess what already done.

MythBusters is to firearms studies what Ronald McDonald is to physics! The show is pretty much about two men (along with some assistants) having fun along the way with their illogical experimentations ... that's all. Any tests they conduct with "actual" & "functioning" firearms should, and probably will, raise many several red flags amongst a group like this (THR), whatever may happen.
