Good sense, more particularly, Tactical Good Sense never being a prerequisit for me to want to fool around with something, I went looking for this 1 5/8" 22m. I learned that the mini revolvers are highly popular with every gunshop in this area having one or more of them in stock. They report selling them regularly- particularly during spikes in the CCW phenom. The only one that met my criteria of 22 magnum/ 1 5/8ths barrel had one of those clip holster/grip arrangement that I ddn't want and replaced with the "boot?" grip. First shooting was done with the mounting panels of the holster grip and the sharp rear of the cylinder removed quite a bit of skin from my thumb.
NAA was very responsive to the grip order, sending them out first class mail and I had them in about four days. The company stands out from the mass of the gun industry in dedication to customer service.
My chronographing showed somewhat higher velocities than some of those on the NAA site:

Winchester Wester 40 grain JHP- Original load
Velocity 1027 fps Energy 94 ft lbs (10) H: 1044 L: 972

CCI Maxi Mag TNT 30 grain jhp
From 2003 Velocity: 1117 Energy 83 ft l bs (10) H: 1126/ L: 1098

From 2010 Velocity: 1155 Energy 89 ft/lbs (5) HL 1214/L: 1101

CCI Maxi Mag FMJ 40 grain
From 2003 Velocity: 1038 Energy 96 ft/lbs (5) H: 1071 L: 976
From 2010 Velocity: 1017 Energy 92 ft/lbs (5) H: 1049 L: 990

Remington 40 grain JHP
Velocity 995 Energy 88 ft/lbs (10) H: 1029 L: 967

which was consistent with what I found with a 1 1/8th 22 long rifle a few years ago ( Mini-mags =790s and Stingers 898}

The CCI TNT 30 grain bullet seems particularly good as a both a seven year old lot and some new ones averaged in the 1100 fps range

and expanded enough in water jugs to indicate they would do the same in flesh. One load, the WW supreme 34 grain was particularly surprising as the first round clocked mid 1000s and the next was over 1400 fps. The case head separated leaving the body of the case in the chamber. No damage to the gun:

I stopped shooting these and had nothing similar happen with the other loads.
This one is a lot easier to use than the long rifle I had shot earlier. At ranges of two steps from the target back to five steps, it required no skill or practice to flip the gun up, cover the desired point of impact with the front sight and trip the trigger getting nice close hits:

Seven yards is a bit beyond this one's job discription and, at that range I had to hold about 10" . I shot these deliberatedly over the chronograph screens:

It appears that the NAA will do at 15-21 feet what my Baby Browning does with about the same degree of effort at 15-25 yards. The only 25 acp load that comes close is the speer gold dot 35 grain that clocks mid/high 1000s and expands very well.
The velocity and expansion of the CCI TNT compares closely with CCI mini mag hollowpoints from a standard sized 22 pistol or revolver. These will go through a jackrabbit or armadillo and kill them very well. CCI and WW original jhp loads will not expand until given several hundred fps more velocity.
If the Naa site ballistics for the 22 short version of this revolver is accurate, it is virtually identical to what you get with a cci short mini-cap from a rifle. This is sufficient to kill a squirrel and another animal that I will not name that weighs between five and ten pounds.

I've got a .22LR and a Super Companion (cap and ball on a mag frame) both in folding holster/grips which I like. I'm Holding out on the mag model until that new top break they're working on hits the market, though. I think I'll want that thing. :D Rumor has it, it'll be next year, though. Guess I can wait.

These things are cool and accuracy improves as you practice. I've taken rabbits at 15 yards or so with my .22LR, 1 5/8" barrel. I've killed assorted vermin with it. I can hit a paper plate with it every shot from 25 yards. That might be comical for the guy that shoots a 6" 686, but hey, that's pretty danged good in the mini revolver world, target grade. :D I mean, it's no mini master, but its size is why I always seem to be carrying it when I need to put down a possum in the trash. It's my back up.

Another one I'll like to get is the pug, better sights.

right. It was the pictures of the top break that got me thinking about this one. I'm the one who contacted the company and was told that the top break is tentative at this time and will not be out until they are sure it will work. This would be " after the first of the year" at the earliest.
Unlike the gun industry at large, this company likes to field workable guns rather than have the buyers do the beta testing of them.

NAA

Check out my thread "BBQ gun for small gatherings" several below yours. The laser make an incredible difference in ease of aiming.

I really like the look of those grips. I bought a NAA .22 Mag when I turned 21, 32 years ago. It has traveled many a mile with me, and not just as a back up.

I figured that laser would be great in low light. The sights on these things are impossible to see in low light. But, it covers up the sights so you're stuck with point shooting in bright sunlight. I kinda would like to have the option of using the irons as the laser probably isn't bright enough to see. I know the one I have isn't very useful unless it's low light.

The way they keep making this electronic stuff smaller, probably be a CT grip for the thing in a few years. :D

So, mec, you're the one that started the rumor. :D I might go looking for a pug or a black widow soon. I'd like to have one with better sights. I priced a mini master, had been wanting one until I found out it was 360 bucks with both cylinders. I'm sure it's a neat gun, but it's not as handy as the shorter barrel ones and it'd not be a carry. I have a .22 kit gun that shoots quite well. Maybe I'll look into a .22 mag/LR equipped black widow.

I would like one of these; however, I hear NAA are making one that breaks open. I will wait and see. Anyone else hear anything about this?

That's the rumor I mentioned. It won't be for a while and I'll save the money when it gets here. I might want another one before then. :D I mean, what other gun is so well made and yet affordable enough to build a collection of? I've got about everything else I've wanted, too many guns, but these things don't take up a lot of room.

I think these little guns are underated for ccw especially in .22 mag. I carry my 1 1 1/8" peice all the time. I had a box of 50 cci 40 grain tmj's and had 5 ftf's. I switche to 45 grain winchester dynapointes. I found these rounds penetrated well ( 2" into phone book ) and expanded non symetrically to about .38 caliber. I beleive it due to heavy weight bullet and copper plated not jacketed bullet.

Well, they ain't much, but sometimes you just can't take along much and conceal it. They fit a niche and the little .22 is so small, I can't figure out why I should leave it at home even though I take along a 9mm or .38 normally as a primary. The danged thing has just come in useful.

Those magnums are LOUD. I kinda prefer the .22 as an also gun, but it don't have as much penetration, I'm quite sure. It's down on velocity by 200-300 fps. I'm only getting around 800 fps from a Federal Lightening. I believe in shooting what hits closest to POA with these little things. Variation in performance ain't that much, except that Dynapoint magnums are pretty weak. The Dynapoint is weak enough it doesn't work the action of my Remington auto reliably and I'll get a failure to eject now and then because of it. When it does eject, it doesn't do so with authority as does the CCI stuff. But, that's in a rifle. I'm not sure how they'd compare from a mini revolver. I haven't chronographed 'em in the rifle, but the published stats show the dynapoint rather slow and I have notes that my rifle is 2" high at 50 yards and spot on at 100 yards with CCI. With dynapoint it's spot on at 50 and 8" low at 100. Pretty much confirms it's not shooting with the CCI.

I have the laser grips on a ruger lcr. Grreat in subdued light but I have to search for the dot in bright sunlight or overcast/ high UV.

This NAA I have hits the primers plenty hard on all the magnums I've tried. With 22 long rifles, Ive had numberous squibs and duds with WW and remington bulk pack ammo and even had to push stuck bullets out of six inch revolver barrels. I stick with CCI when it comes to 22 long rifles.
