I have an older NAA Mini Magnum that does not have safety notches cut into the cylinder. I'm thinking about sending the gun into NAA for an updated cylinder. My only hesitation revolves around modifying a potential collectable. Do any of our collectors know if these older models are sought after? I'm guessing that these mass produced guns were made in enough quantity that examples are easy to find, but I could be wrong.

For me this gun is a cool little range toy. I don't think I'll ever carry it as a defensive weapon, but you never know. While I don't necessarily need the upgrade for safety purposes, I'd like having the feature just in case.

Would I be ruining a potential collectable by upgrading the safety feature?

Mine is that way as well. I wouldn't think it was collectable, but who knows. As an aside, I always set the hammer down between the rims, long before they made it "safer" by extending the cylinder and adding notches.

Interested in the responses.

Put it on auction, with a starting price just high enough to net you the cost of a new one. If there's a market for it, it will sell to someone who values it, and if not, you can have it converted.

That's a good idea, but I don't want to put it up for auction because if it does have some value as a collectable I'll keep it, I just won't upgrade the cylinder. When I'm gone my kids can decide what to do with it.

Call NAA and ask them. Maybe you could get a modern cylinder with notches and keep the old cylinder incase it is valuable.

I would be very surprised if an NAA is collectable. But, these days, it seems that anything and everything is collectable by someone. So who knows?

How old is the OP's Mini?

Both my Mini wheelguns (bought them new) are over 25 years old, and they have the cylinder safety notches:

so, what if you could have a new notched cylinder fitted to it and still keep and use your old cylinder on the off chance it's collectible? Not sure if that's possible, but a call to NAA would answer that question.

I'm not sure how old it is. I am not the original owner. I did a quick Google search and there doesn't appear to be an online serial number source. I have the instruction manual. (It's 2 pages long) The manual instructs you to carry the gun at half cock for safety.

I think I'll call NAA later this week and see what kind of serial number information they have.

Carry at half cock? I think I'd leave the hammer down on an empty chamber instead.

You can ask at the NAA forum and get a straight answer. There are several longtime NAA Mini collectors there who know the market well.

That's what I always did when totin' my Mini. Never trusted any half-cock "safety", nor the safety notches on my little gun.

Just added new boot grips to my Mini Magnum - on sale for "only" $28 at the NAA site ($7 shipping). Hope the pic is rightside up:
