Thinking about getting one of the NAA Black Widows. I noticed there are two types of cylinder releases on them. Old and new I'm guessing. One is push the button on the end of the cylinder rod then slide out and the other is pull down the end of the cylinder rod, turn 90° and slide out.
Which one better then the other?

I had an older Black Widow with the older push button & must admit I liked it better. But the new pull down is more secure. I would go with that model. I would also recommend the convertable models w/ extra .22L.R. cylinder. You won't regret it! JMO.

I have the newer style cylinder but if I found an older style at a good price the style would not deter me buying. Definitely get both cylinders.

I currently own two of them - well I did :scrutiny:, my wife laid claim to the first one I brought home. Both are the new style so I can't really compare. I will say the new style pin works like a champ and blends well with the lines of the gun.

They made a top break and discontinued. Now they have a swing out called the "the Side Winder". The S/W is available in a 1" barrel but may come out in a longer version.

The grips on the new model are different, slightly smaller & slimmer. But still large enough to get an excellent grip on it! I traded the smaller wood 'Cowboy 'grips off a 3"Earl, NAA rov.for the grips off the B.W. . It makes a nice C.C. pistol & the Earl works great w / the bigger grips. I plan to buy the wood model of the B.W.grip . This company makes some fine small guns & I hope they can overcome the problems with the cost of some of their rov.s so we can all get their best ideas & products!

too slick

I put the wood grips on mine a few years ago. Looks real nice, but they are too slick. The OE rubber grips work better.
By far the best rubber grips were those squared-off oversize grips from the early models. I have those on my MiniMaster. Ugly as heck but they work!

I agree two cylinders are a must. When I first saw the Ranger (break top) I wanted one but they only made 500 of them and they went fast. I do like the Earl but the grips were too small. Nice to know I can use the bigger grips if I get one.
Thanks a lot everyone!

If you like the Earl, try to get the 3" model it is easily carried in a holder for eyeglasses. The bigger grips help with shooting it & make it much more comfortable! The wood 'Cowboy 'grips would be better if made of rubber & just slightly bigger! Changing grips is the key to getting a hand on these pistols! (No pun intended .)More options would go along way in helping them sell these great designs!
