Ok, in 30.06
so if for the US army, before the 60's
Milled receiver, interesting front, not a shot gun, so looking earlier at a gas trap??
so.. right after the war, based off of the G42 or was it G43 with the gas trap.

As for who, IDK

Alright - it's an experimental shoulder rifle version of the Lewis gun.

Here's a different one that has a pretty clear lineage, but is still pretty interesting (it'll be on the site tomorrow):

wow!

I had considered a few other MG's, but nothing even close to the Lewis! upon searching for your description, I only found two guns that were Lewis-es that bore any resemblance to this! the second gun, however, I found quite a few images of. In my opinion, if you could put a 30 round magazine on that thing and make it lighter/smaller, it would actually be a pretty good heavy battle rifle! :D (the first one)

So who's next? :)

Iver Johnson top break, looks like an owl on the grip

Close enough. Its a Iver Johnson Safety Automatic. The same kind of gun incidentally was used by Leon Czolgosz in the assassination of President McKinley.

Your turn!
