Just wondering if anyone else got screwed when they were notified by Natchez that they had 115 gr. American Eagle 9mm FMJ back in stock for $24.95 per box.
Exactly one week later, they had on there website that they had it for $19.99 per box, in stock. When I called to ask the reason, I was just told "well the price of ammo just fluctuates so much...". Then why is there "list" advertised price still $29.99 per box? After ordering 10 boxes and losing $50 I've stopped buying from Natchez. I wrote them an e-mail and now they want me to talk to there sales manager. Obviously it would be a waste of time listening to him try to explain why they won't credit me for $50. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I just have a hard time believing that all of a sudden Natchez got a 20% break (or more)on what they pay.

Eh, at least listen to the sales manager and give them a chance to make it right before you write the company off forever.

Ouch! I know that hurt, as I feel your pain and have done the same.

A month ago I bought the same ammo for $26.99/box. A week later I was at a different gun store, bought 2 boxes of Remington for $$16.99/box, and a week after that, I purchased online from Cabala's, 4 boxes of the exact same ammo for $11.99/box(this was a b/o condition...should get it within the next 10 days...hopefully)

Lesson learned. Don't buy from price gougers. :banghead:

I don't have a problem believing that at all, especially these days.
It would not surprise me at all for Natchez to be buying from multiple sources, some of those distributors will charge more or less than others and Natchez or any business has to pass that on to their customers. I doubt the actual margin changes.

Don't buy from Natchez, it will leave more for me.

As browningguy says, it's one of the few places I do business with consistently specifically because of their good business practices.

Ammo prices are all over the place these days. It's kind of funny to watch people act surprised by that fact. Also funny for you to say you "lost" $50 because you happily paid a certain price then the price went down later. And you expect a business to refund your money after you agreed to pay the advertised price for a product?

Then to call that price gouging. Too funny.....

Nuff' said. I guess the faster that I realize that ammo is to now be considered a commodity and will fluctuate like gas prices for no good reason the better.

Over the last 5 weeks I've been buying boxes of it for $14.99 locally and for$16.99 100 miles from here.

I don't know why Natchez can't get the same kind of deal as a big privately owned gun store.

I guess they don't know the right people. BWAAHAHAHA. Yeah, right.

Make friends with an FFL based out of his house and see if he gets wholesaler catalogs. My FFL guy lets me buy anything I want at an extra 10% added for his labor. I got five k of .22lr @ $1.65 a box of fifty after shipping and his 10% fee. I'm sittng on 3k of 9mm in Fiocchi, American Eagle, and other (Blazzer Brass, Winchester White Box, etc.), so I only get my 9mm (Blazzer Brass) through Walmart through a friend that works there and picks a box or two up for me every month at nine bucks a box (I just round up to the highest dollar after she gets her 15% discount).

Try Cabelas, they are backlogged, but cheaper and they will get it to you though, that's been my experience. Had to wait on 500 rounds of .357 magnum at just under 18 bucks a box after shipping. But I got it and got it five buck cheaper than around here where they have it. Walmart finally, after over a month, got in a box of 100rd .38 special+P at 29.99 and I was fortunate enough to be there to pick up my friend from her work while her car was in the shop and I got it (at her discount).

I am tiring of hearing about "how I got screwed" when buying ammo, primers, powder etc.

Not to rag on the OP...please hear me out.

Bottom line is simply this, when you bought your product you felt that it was a good deal and made your purchase. We live in tough times in regards to our hobby, prices go up and down and the product is here and then it's poof...gone. There are NO guarantees anymore.

Maybe you should have bought some at the lesser price...that would have brought your overall price down.

I'm just happy that ammo is becoming more available and that the retailers are adjusting prices down at all.

My waits from Cabelas has been anywhere from one month to three months at the longest. Hey it's a wait but their prices are some of the best. If you can't be patient then you pay a premium for getting it sooner that is all. Now I'm sitting on over 13k of large pistol primers (I got two 5k boxes before the primaries and ordered another three 1k boxes a couple months after the election) and around that amount for large pistol magnum primers, small rifle primers, small pistol primers.

Granted to say I'm done buying reloading components, I've been good with getting money and buying at bulk for discounts that I haven't had to reload yet. I've got plenty of powders, bullets, primers, and brass should shtf, and that lets me sleep plenty comfy at night. Granted I've only got a few hundred rounds of 30/30 factory but I'm done buying ammo at bulk that isn't .22lr(I'm an NRA pistol instructor handling 20 to thirty students a month at 50 rounds of .22lr a student) or 7.62x25 for my Tokarevs and homebrew PPSH43 pistol.

First off be glad you found ammo at a price you thought was reasonable. Dealers buy from many different suppliers and how are they suppose to control when and how they get their shippments in.

I'd bet that if the price was $5.00 HIGHER this post wouldn't even be here

OK, one more time since some of us aren't paying attention.

This is the free market at work. When demand goes beyond the supply prices go up. That's the way it works. When supply exceeds demand then prices come down. That's also the way it works. Natchez (and other retailers) isn't setting the price. They mark a retail price based on the wholesale price they pay. That price goes up and down with supply and demand fluctuations. Getting mad at them because they keep changing prices isn't reasonable as they price they pay keeps changing and they have to respond.

Best solution is don't buy for a while. Let supply catch up with demand and prices will come down. Complaining doesn't help. Blaming retailers doesn't help. You have to let the market sort itself out.

look elsewhere

i used to buy a lot from natchez, but i have had to look further and i found another outfit, rrarms.com. sure, they are backordered, but silver bear 9 mm 145 gr jhp for $5.88 a box is worth waiting for. the 115 gr is just 30-40 cents more. give them a look.

So it was basically $25 for 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle FMJ 9mm ammo? What a rip off. Didn't this stuff used to be like $9.99 a box or something? 6 or 7 months ago? I know my gun store used to have it for $14.99 and it's gone up to $19.99. I know 9mm ammo is popular right now but it's still $20-21 depending on which Wal-Mart for 100 rounds of Winchester White Box 9mm at Wal-Mart if they have it instock. Why buy 50 rounds when you could buy 100? Heck, Winchester White Box Hollow Points are 50 rounds but cheaper than $20 even.

Or is this American Eagle different than I'm thinking of?

yes and if people would stop buying at that price it would go back down instead "omg I can't live without shooting my gun for a while I'll pay whatever I have to to blam blam blam at the range"

Natchez's shipping fee's are rediculous anyway, I buy from Graf's, prices are competitive and they only charge a $4.50 handling charge.:)

Natchez has always been a great place to buy, but they pretty much ran out of all handgun ammo a month or two ago, and what's coming in now is for sale at sometimes double what it used to sell for. Oh well. I'm not buying any of it for now.

You could always go to Walmart every morning to see what might have come in overnight. They seem to be "only" up about 50%.

If you don't have what you need by now, yes, it's gonna be a bit@h for a while...

I don't blame them - these prices are driven by buyers willing to pay $20 for a box of 9 mm FMJ. However, as I said in combined ammo thread, I'll make an effort not to buy from them again - not now, not when (and if) prices come down. They made their choice to milk it; other retailers didn't and they'll get my money in future.

I don't blame them at all honestly. If it was me and people were willing to pay $20 to $25 I would probably charge that. I'm not sure if I would or not but I wouldn't sell it for $10 if everyone around me wants $30 either. However, I wouldn't price it at $50 a box when everyone wanted $30 a box.

It's the people paying these prices I think are stupid.

Just wondering if anyone else got screwed

Nope, just you.

Gimme a break.

Gas is $2.20 this week and next week it will go down to $1.99. Are you going to go into the station and complain because you bought it at $2.20?

Prices fluctuate.

Buy all you can at $19.99 and enjoy it.

Redneck, I agree Natchez's shipping fees are too high. I found this out a few years ago and decided to buy from merchants that didn't make up their low prices by tacking on higher shipping and handling. I don't even look at their website.

Just keep track of those who are inflating their prices just because they've got it. When the shortages clear up sometime down the road, the shoe will be on the other foot... You'll have the $$$ and have a choice where to buy.

I've been dealing with a local gun shop who has always treated me right, until lately. They think I'll spend $78 for a box of primers just 'cause they are one of the few that have them. Well, I won't pay that now, nor will I purchase from them when they drop prices when things clear up.

Remember, the "Free Enterprise" concept works both ways...
