Couple of questions, as I prepare to assemble an order from National bullet Co <http://nationalbullet.com/index.php>. I guess I could ask them, but this is more interesting...

One, what difference/benefit is there in spending the extra $$ on nickel instead of brass cases? I don't shoot all that much, and I reaload for the purpose of saving money. However, if nickel lasts longer, it may be more economical in the long run to buy the nickel.

Two, what is "processed" and "unprocessed" brass? Is that a fancy way of saying "de-primed"?

Anyone order from them before? Get good results with .38 cast bullets in .357 mag, low-to-medium (target, small varment & plinking) velocities? Any leading problems? How about their brass? Good enough for an average woods bum?

It has been my experience that nickel-plated brass doesn't last as long as plain brass, as it is more brittle and I have seen cracks at the mouth more often and more frequently than with regular brass cases.

I would avoid the nickel also. It does nothing to make your firearm shoot more accurately, does seem to crack earlier, is more expensive, and also I have heard that when/if the nickel flakes off the case, flakes can be driven down the bore during firing, scratching/wearing your rifling. I haven't seen it happen, but makes sense to me enough to steer clear of it!

I just had this happen with brand new nickel cases, also it cracked (not reloads but new factory ammo.

i picked up a number of their 158gr SWC a while back for 38sp loads, and they are high quality.

call and check their lead time though, a lot of bullet manufacturers have been very backed up lately, and national has suffered from this more than others.

my experience with their actual product though is positive.

Thanks for the warnings and the link to the other forum. Is NBC getting better, staying the same, or getting worse? (That link was from last summer & fall).

I'll also check some of those other suppliers mentioned on the other link. I was checking out Midway, but I am always looking for a better deal out there somewhere!

They have $130 of my hard earned money that I doubt I will ever see again or recieve the products for which I paid. There are plenty good companies out there to deal with so why risk it.

The purpose for nickel plating brass cases was to prevent corrosion when cartridges were carried in loops on leather belts. That practice is seldom seen these days since most law enforcement agencies have turned to pistols in place of revolvers. Unless you have some worry about the effects of leather on brass I wouldn't pay extra for nickeled cases, and it makes no sense for pistol cartridges at all.
