Let's look at what business segments benefit and lose revenue from the Federal govt. shutting down telemarketing. Telemarketers use telephones, I'm assuming the telephone companies are doing ok with the additional load of the Internet (lines, traffic, etc). The Post Office has lost revenue because of the very increases that the phone companies benefited from - people using email, paying bills electronically, etc. When the telemarketers go away, I'm betting the Post Office benefits. The marketing business isn't going to evaporate, it'll just move to a different delivery mechanism. The advantage is when they send you something in the mail - you can heat your house with it if you've got a fireplace - or you can mail it back in one of their postage paid envelopes.
