Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) recently opened a branch in Montgomery, AL. I noticed during a lunch time visit today that the door is posted with a "No Firearms" sticker/sign.

I spoke briefly with the staff and the Branch Manager. I expressed my pleasure with the new branch office, but emphasized my displeasure with the prohibition of lawfully carried firearms.

I identified myself as a NFCU member licensed to carry a concealed pistol. I asked that, as manager, she consider removing the posting for the branch and pass the request forward to NFCU nationally.

We spoke together about possible concerns with firearms in the branch and agreed that the sign would not stop a "bad guy" from entering the office. I indicated that the prohibition would hamper my access to the office. The manager indicated that she has recently seen email concerning lawful carry in NFCU locations and indicated that topic was under discussion.

I provided my name and indicated that I would be posting the prohibition on internet forums that I regularly visit.

If there are any NFCU members in the Montgomery, AL area, please encourage this new branch to remove the restriction of lawfully carried firearms in our new branch.

Thanks.

Next time I visit the NFCU in Orlando, I'll have to check for signs.

Signs carry no legal weight in Florida. If you are somehow "made" when carrying concealed, the business can ask you to leave, which you should.

If you don't leave, the local PD or SO can and will issue you a "tresspass warning"

Businesses that don't respect the right of law abiding to protect themselves should be dropped for those that do. You did the right thing by addressing your concern. I would continue to address this until a decision is made. If the decision is a bad one, switch and tell them why in NO UNCLEAR TERMS. This nonsense must not continue.

These issues always confuse me. You are angry that the business is taking away your right, but you are perfectly alright with taking away their right to decide what goes on in their building.

It's not a Federal building, it's a Federal Credit Union. Basically a bank set up under Federal rules for a credit union. My Credit Union is also a Federal Credit Union, but has no ties to the Federal Government. It's a credit union formed by employees of Ohio Bell many years ago.

I wonder what other businesses in Montgomery are doing the same. My CU (COMALA) does not have any that I recall. Regions Bank has that foolishness about no hats and sunglasses though I have yet to see them enforce the rule.

We've slackened off a lot from going to Toys r Us since they posted their sign.

I agree with the no hat , no sunglasses rule. Makes for better I.D. on potential bank robbers (not that they really care about the signs) . But the no guns sign I don't agree with.
I also am a NFCU member but have not stepped in a actual office in years, I deal with them all via U.S. Mail. But this sign is like the no hat/sunglasses as to where the BG will not pay attention to it either.

No, he doesn't want to "take away their right", he wants to convince them to change their minds on the subject. Vast difference there. They can chose freely any way they want to.

Maybe they should ban service members as well; you just can't trust those people who are around deadly weapons all the time.

He's going about it the right way, I was more referencing the rash of people boycotting and badmouthing whatever store/business because of their policy.

What's wrong with a boycott? It's your right to express your dissatisfaction through a boycott.

At one point in Montgomery, AL about 60 years ago those signs were 'No Blacks Allowed.' We find that repulsive now because they violated people's civil rights. So does this.
