Nazi CZ 27 "fnh Pistole Modell 27 Kal. 7.65" help

Greetings,

So I aquired an old pistol from my friend, which belonged to his grandfather in years past. Apparently his Grandfather was shot down in a B-29 (I think: he was a turret gunner) and took this off some nazi. He gav it to me cause it was rusted. His basement flooded and this pistol just sat in water for a little bit.

It is also missing a clip.

I dont know anything about guns really, you can see the nazi-eagle stamp, serial, and the whermact stamp. The slide pulls back nicely and i can strip it down. Everything appears to be in good working order. When I depress something where the slide should go both the hammer and trigger function.

I need to know how I can get the rust off. Can I have it blued, was it blued originally? I have a crappy pic of it that I scanned ( i have no digicam at the moment). Take a look and tell me what you think, please.

You could clean the rust off with whatever mildly abrasive process you like (abrasive pads, chore boy, sandblasting, etc.) and then reblue it yourself or have the whole thing done.

If it were me, I would give it the best scrubbing I could with some oil and a chore boy, rub it down with some CLP Collector, and hang it up. I don't think I'd refinish a historical piece.

Your gun, your call. Refinishing is certainly an option. I would have it checked out carefully if you plan to shoot it.

How much do you think it might cost to refinish it? I already scrubbed the best I could on my own. It's a nice little gun and think it'd make a decent CCW. The value ascribed to something is what one wishes to make it and so I'd prefer to get it in working order.

You might check with a collector of such pistols. The rust can be removed without abrasives but it's an electrochemical proceess.

I would put the refinishing cost at less than $150. Parkerizing shouldn't run more than $70 (that would be the complete job, mag included). Bluing seems to run higher, into the $100 range. Don't ask me why, those are just the quotes I've seen.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but do have the gun checked out before putting rounds through it. Mags can be had for around $30 from Triple-K.

I wouldn't go to the trouble of a full scale refinish, the return wouldn't justify the outlay of funds.
Brownells offers a great cold blue product called Oxpho-Blue that will penetrate right through the rust scale and provide a decent surface finish.
Once the surface has a uniform color finish you can use 0000 steel wool and a good high grade gun oil will remove most of the surface rust and seal the rust in the pits,
For this I like M-Pro7 CLP of R.I.G.,(rust inhibiting grease), for a longer wearing surface protector.

There is a little joint up in Waupacau Wisconsin that usually carries original CZ-27 magazines on hand.
They aren't cheap but I guarantee they will function a whole lot better than an aftermarket Triple K magazine and they were built heavy duty by the Czechs so they last forever.HTH

"...took this off some nazi..." Not if he fell out of a B-29 he didn't. They weren't used in Europe. B-17, B-25, B-26 or B-24, sure. Mind you, most pidgeons bought their souvenirs from Army guys at very inflated prices. Not that it matters.
It looks heavily pitted as well as rusted. A fine brass wire wheel in a bench grinder will take off the rust. A secure hand drill or drill press will do. A gentle touch and wear safety glasses. Chemicals are mess and toxic. Then use some cold bluing. Having it professionally reblued will cost more than the pistol is worth.
Gunparts has parts for the CZ 27. Magazines(it's not a clip!) included. $33.60 each. It came in .32 ACP and .380. Your's is a .32 ACP.
A .32 ACP is better than nothing, but it's not the best choice for CCW.
