I used to love watching the American Sportsman" series with Curt Gowdy (sp?) Used to have different celebrities in all kinds of outdoor sporting activities.
The one that I remember impressing me the most was Fred Bear and Fred Savage bowhunting pheasants in Iowa over pointers. 2 old guys with traditional bows drilling pheasants in flight with flue-flue fletched arrows.
I don't recall which network carried the American Sportsman but there was only 3 choices back then. I remember when Gunsmoke went from b&w to color, and Dad decided we needed a new TV.
ABC carried American Sportsman and it was 60s. I remember William Shatner bow hunting brown bear in Alaska. He shot one, it ran into an alder thicket, and Captain Kirk goes running off through the thicket without his phaser. I thought that a bit stupid, but they found the bear dead.
