Howdy, folks.
I'm PCSing to Cherry Point, NC in a couple of weeks. Since I won't be a NC Resident, but instead active duty military, I don't know how to go about getting a permit to purchase a pistol...or a lot of the pistol laws in NC for that matter. Also, since I will have a residence in NC but no NC Driver's License, will I be able to get an NC CWP? It's not too big of an issue because NC honors my ND permit. What's there to know about NC's firearm laws?

Thank you for your continuous service Aaryq.
This should help get you started.Go to Section 8 for most of the answers.

North Carolina has a lot of off limits areas, unfortunately. Many State Gov.Buildings, alcohol establishments,State Parks, banks, schools, events where admission is charged, posted signs have force of law. We've got a long way to go.

You need a purchase permit to buy a pistol in NC. You get it from your local sheriff. You'll need your ND driver's license, your military ID card, and a certified copy of your PCS orders. The county Sheriffs in Carteret County and in Pamlico County are generally pretty easy to deal with, so you shouldn't have any trouble at all. CCWs are "shall issue", so you're good to go there, too.
