I'm going to NC next week for a conference. I have a TN permit and know they have reciprocity so I'm not worried about that. Seems like NC is an open carry state (much like VA, where I'm currently stationed in the military). I know in Va you can't carry concealed anywhere that alcohol is served for consumption, however you can open carry where alcohol is served. I know myself and my other 3 guys will likely eat dinner at places that serve alcohol. Can I open carry in these type places? I don't plan on going clubbing, but would like to sit down at an Outback Steakhouse and be allowed to carry. If I can't carry there period, I'll leave it in the truck, rather than go to jail. BTW I will be going to Jacksonvill, NC (near Camp LeJune). Any other odd laws I need to worry about?

Outback

Carry it concealed and don't drink.

Dang I wish I could be going to Jacksonville :) They have a good Lone Star Steakhouse there too just before you get to the mall on the right after you turn off Highway 24, the Outback is further down the street across Highway 17.

CaptMac is telling you to commit a crime.

§ 14 269.3. Carrying weapons into assemblies and establishments where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry any gun, rifle, or pistol into any assembly where a fee has been charged for admission thereto, or into any establishment in which alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
(b) This section shall not apply to the following:
--(1) A person exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14 269;
--(2) The owner or lessee of the premises or business establishment;
--(3) A person participating in the event, if he is carrying a gun, rifle, or pistol with the permission of the owner, lessee, or person or organization sponsoring the event; and
--(4) A person registered or hired as a security guard by the owner, lessee, or person or organization sponsoring the event. (1977, c. 1016, s. 1; 1981, c. 412, s. 4, c. 747, s. 66; 1993, c. 539, s. 165; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c).)

It is illegal for ANY person to carry ANY gun into an establishment where alcohol is sold and consumed. 14-269 does not exempt CCW licensees.
