NC-SC FTF purchase rules/laws?

Hopefully someone out there has been in this situation and can help me out...

I am a SC resident hoping to purchase a pistol FTF from a NC resident. The purchase would be made in NC. Other than CYA documentation (tho' adivse there for both parties is appreciated), what steps do each of us need to take to ensure the transfer is 100% legal?

That's a no-go altogether. The closest he can legally do is meet him at an FFL in SC, transfer the gun to the dealer, and have the dealer transfer the gun to you.

Time to start looking for the FFL farthest north in SC on the I-85 corridor.

Yup, unfortunately FTF transfers are limited to residents of the same state only. Otherwise, you're stuck going through a FFL on one end as previously mentioned.

Correct. And, it's Federal law, BTW, regardless of state laws. 18 USC 922(a)(3) and (a)(5):
