Yeah, In lenoir county we have a pretty gun friendly sheriff and it still takes a few days to get a purchase permit. But I went to see them yesterday to do the paperwork for my concealed carry, so I shouldnt be needing a purchase permit for a while :)

You usually don't get them for a few days anyways (thought that was law, maybe not). Best to get a CCW in NC just to bypass that garbage, regardless of whether you carry.

Hmmm. The last couple of times I got one it was 30 minutes to an hour but that was a year ago. Maybe they've gotten backed up lately.

Every thread I've seen Sinixstar posting, he's right and he's willing to prove it, no matter how much he has to belittle every other poster....he just wants to argue.
Ignore him, maybe he'll go away.....

Odd

What is the point of a purchase permit when most states go through the FBI NICS system for purchases from an FFL? Do you have to get this purchase permit when buying a handgun from a dealer or do you also have to get a purchase permit for buying a handgun say out of the newspaper or a gun show? Sounds like a hassle and a good reason to have a concealed handgun license if you buy and sell handguns frequently.

LOL, I know you would not see the run on firearms purchases that's occurring had that happened. And a few gun owners would be sleeping easier.
The amazing thing is that we seem to agree that the reason for this thread was perhaps an actual computer malfunction and not a "left-wing conspiracy".
I'll leave it at that for now.

Risk, and perceived risk, are two different things.
Would people sleep easier? Sure. Does that mean the threat is any less, absolutely not.

I have absolutely by no means ever sought to belittle anyone here, ever.
If i've ever crossed the line, or gone after someone in an offensive way - please call me on it. It's not my intention and if you can show me where when why and how i crossed the line - I will absolutely stand up and apologize for my actions.

I disagree with people on here from time to time, sometimes rather passionately. I view things perhaps differently then some people here - that's no secret to anyone.
The reason why I post on this site, and not others, is that this is the one site that I've found where there seems to be an element of willingness to have a reasonable debate/discussion. Yes, I have challenged people to look at things a little different, to perhaps see another side to the issue - and at the same time I have on more than one instance had to sit down and face that challenge myself.
I openly welcome that push against the lens to which I see the world, and again, I post on this site because I thought others were similarly minded in that regard.

If anyone has ever felt like I've belittled them, or attacked them unnecessarily - by all means send me a message and let me know. If you're upset because somehow I'm not "one of us" well - that's your problem.

They're required for all purchases, whether between private folks or through a dealer. That said, I suspect that the requirement is widely ignored for private sales.

It really is a pretty pointless system.

Horse hockey

Every county is different. Here in New Hanover you have to fill out a packet and have 3 letters of reccomendation to get one permit that is good for 2 years.

However, back in the hills in Yadkin County, you say "Howdy y'all" and you could get 5 of them in 10 minutes.

I tell everyone that asks to just apply for a concealed carry permit. About the same paperwork, but a bunch more money...but they never have to worry about the Sheriff's BS again...and the concealed carry permit is uniform across the state.

He believes that the incoming administration is not a threat to gun owners.

And he probably believes Santa will vaseline himself down that chimney on 25-dec-2008.

Sorry guys, BamBam the messiah, the chosen one, Black Baby Jesus himself will be coming for your guns. Just a matter of time.
