I'm looking to get an inexpensive 4x scope for my Bushmaster M4gery, and I came across this..

http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/products_id/418

It even comes with a carrying handle mount....

Anyone got any experience with one? Is it even worth $40? I plan on mainly just using it to shoot 100-200 yards. If it is indeed crap, are there any options around $100 for a decent 4x? If so, what kind of mount would I need to attach it to my carrying handle?

thanks.

I went through the same thing a little while ago. I wanted a carry handle, Colt Type scope. I took a chance and bought one of the Hakko scopes from CDNN. Hakko was sold to a Chinese company but they made the original carry-handle scopes for Colt and this one is supposed to have been made in Japan.

I don't know. It's probably Chinese made and I got ripped. I paid 99.99, shot a couple hundred rounds and so far its holding up. It does have a kind of big dot in the center of the cross-hairs. I would guess it's 3 or 4 MOA. I was just trying to avoid a headache with cheap-o optics. The glass does seem clear and bright on this scope and it does seem somewhat well made.

I'd personally just save up for an Eotech. Start a fight with the girlfriend so you don't have to take her out for a couple weeks or something.

IMHO you should do whatever you can afford. If you're broke and plan on being broke for a while, buy something cheap. If you think all optics are the same and the extra dollars are for a little bit better glass and marketing, you need to be re-educated. If $60 optics were as clear, durable and reliable as $500 optics which were as clear, durable and reliable as $1500 optics, Ncstar and Barska and BSA and Tasco and all the other low end scope manufacturers would have bankrupted Swarowski and Leupold and Nightforce and USOptics and all the other high end manufacturers a long time ago.

If this rifle is used for shooting cans at 50 yards, you're probably not going to have any serious problems. If you plan on shooting squirrels at 150 yards you will be sorely disappointed at the time and money you have wasted. I really don't care because it's not my rifle and I'm not the one that is going to be let down, but you really are getting what you pay for in optics; it's cheap for a reason. Quality and cost are directly related.

I suggest you save and buy an (relatively cheap) aimpoint or an eotech. If you're looking for a scope-type optic, you could try to find something like a Leuopld VX-II in 1-4.

I've got an NCStar 4x32 scope. It wouldn't hold a zero for two rounds on the AR. I took it off and put it on my Marlin 60. It will sometimes hold zero for three rounds. Never more. The only reason I haven't thrown it away is that it is still in the scope rings and I haven't got around to taking them off yet.

I bought a $40 Bushnell and it works great. It ain't short and tacticool, but it works.

Never seen an NCStar optic survive a rifle class. Last one I saw died during the zeroing process (first day).

If the NCStar is all you can swing, you would probably be better off spending the money on ammo and practice with irons instead.

ded after 2 mosin rounds....lots of small fieces floating around inside. took it apart & dumped the cute wittle parts; put it back together & it works....go figure.
junk at any price is still junk. perhaps they are related to A-merc?

Run far away from the Ncstar scopes!!! they are junk.
+1

I actually think they are worse than typical Chinese. I've seen some Chinese stuff that was fairly well-made. I picked up an NCstar scope a couple years ago just becasue it was cheap. It was the single worst firearm-related piece of junk I have ever seen in my life, bar none. The quality was incredible poor.

Nc star is the worst product i have ever tested, and i have tried most of their products, hoping that one would work; red dot, holo sight, spotting scope, diff rifle scopes, not only ones I was testing , but other peoples'. Not one of these products worked, ever, not one. And I don't mean, one or two failed here and there, and then I found 1 example that worked. I mean none. The only other glass that is near this bad would be BSA. So don't get either of these, and i would also avoid any optics by leapers or UTG as well.

I think this will be your best advise.
I also :barf:have had NC scope:banghead:.Total junk.:cuss:
Practice with the irons.

Not so. That's like saying that if clothes from Walmart were as good as Tommy Hilfiger or (insert top fashion designer's name here) the top fashion designers would be out of business. The marketing of certain styles of optics and name-brands are similar to the marketing of other products; Barska and NcStar being similar to the Route 66 K-Mart brand shoes, Trijicon and Zeiss being like the Nike running shoes or Wolverine boots.

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I've got an NcStar scope on my T-53 carbine (Chinese M-44 clone from the 50's) and it's holding up well. In my experience, it's not getting the rings and mount tight enough that cause the zero to drift. I did have a spot of oil on the lense that I had to clean off with a long handled Q-tip, but it's decent, functional optic for the price I paid for it.
