hey I didn't write the headline it's not my fault if the MSM can't tell a semi from a class three

Nearly 900 Assault Rifles, Handguns Seized From Home
Authorities Find Weapons In Home Of Convicted Felon

Nearly 900 assault rifles and handguns and a cache of silencers were seized from a convicted felon's Upland home following a two-month investigation, state and federal law authorities said Tuesday.

The seizure followed a raid last Friday at the Upland home of Robert Ferro, 61, a convicted felon and former gun dealer, said Will Telish, special agent in charge with the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force, or L.A. Impact.

It is the largest weapons seizure in the history of the agency and one of the largest seizures in Southern California in recent years, Telish said.

"Two-hundred assault rifles, 200 machine guns, hundreds of handguns and 200 silencers were seized," Telish said.

Among the fully automatic guns were .50-caliber weapons mounted on tripods. Some explosives also were seized, he said.

The raid, involving the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the state Department of Justice of Narcotic Enforcement and the Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties sheriff's departments, stemmed from the arrest of Frank Beltran at Ferro's other home in Rancho Cucamonga.

Beltran, 36, an acquaintance of Ferro, was arrested March 27 following a standoff with San Bernardino County Sheriff's SWAT deputies. Authorities learned of Ferro after making several arrests while searching for Beltran, authorities said.

Beltran, a La Verne resident, was a fugitive after the Feb. 10 shooting and wounding of a reserve Glendora police officer who responded to a 911 hang-up call. The officer, Casey O'Gorman, is recovering.

Three weeks after the O'Gorman shooting, Beltran allegedly shot and wounded his wife, Angelique Beltran, as she was driving in San Dimas. She survived and is recovering.

Beltran is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, burglary and child abuse.

Following Beltran's arrest at Ferro's Rancho Cucamonga house, investigators turned their attention to Ferro, who has a 1995 conviction for possession of an explosive device, Telish said.

Ferro had a gun dealer's license, but lost it after his conviction.

"The important thing is that he was not allowed to own any guns," Telish said. "Given the amount of weapons seized we think he was doing it (buying weapons) the whole time since 1995."

During the investigation of Ferro and Beltran following Beltran's Rancho Cucamonga arrest, investigators learned that Ferro owned a 7,000-square-foot home at 2045 Tapia Way in Upland.

Investigators served a search warrant on the Upland home and seized the weapons.

The task force displayed the weapons Tuesday at a news conference outside ATF offices.

Some of the rifles were fitted with silencers. Among the cache was a Chinese-made SKS assault rifle and other rifles illegal for citizens to own.

The pistols included included vintage German Lugers, chrome- or gold-plated Western-style revolvers, and Uzis. All were well maintained and operable.

"There's only one reason why these weapons are made, and that's to kill," Telish said.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Mark Montoya said the guns were found stuffed into every conceivable place in the home.

"Every semiautomatic weapon was loaded," Montoya said. "They were hidden behind pictures, in cabinets. All over the house."

The agency task force also found a crude underground shooting range that could accommodate two or three people at a time. The range was converted from a wine cellar and extended from under the house to underneath the backyard.

On Monday, the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office charged Ferro with eight felony counts of possession of firearms by a felon, possession of destructive devices and possession of deadly weapons.

Federal charges also are pending against Ferro, Telish said.

Ferro's wife and adult daughters, who live at the Upland home, were not charged with any crimes.

Beltran's charges are unrelated to those pending against Ferro.

Actually, assuming the descriptions are correct (always a gamble in the media), this might be the first time the term 'assault rifle' was used correctly in a headline. Sounds like he had some full auto stuff there, and doubtless some of it was of intermediate caliber.

Wow.

We can only wish Coronach!

"Two-hundred assault rifles, 200 machine guns,

it looks like the writer thinks assault rifles are different from machine guns,
I bet it's two hundred semi AK's and AR's and 200 class three

Wait a minute - I thought "convicted felons" were not allowed to have guns. So how did this guy get all these awful guns? How many has he passed on to others?

Reading between the lines here this sounds like some mob guys.

"Among the cache was a Chinese-made SKS assault rifle and other rifles illegal for citizens to own."

Whatever brownie points they may have earned for using 'assault rifle' in reference to full-auto rifles were lost when they produced the above. I'd also like to know what sort of crack they were smoking: is the SKS (stock, fixed-magazine version) illegal ANYWHERE in the USA? If so, someone please enlighten me.

If he indeed did own the firearms illegally, then good on the police. In this case the system worked and they apprehended a convicted felon who may have been up to some nefarious plan.

Now...as to how he was able to obtain all of those firearms, one can only guess. Sounds like there will be more arrests as they pursue the source of those guns.

Too bad it's California. The guns will probably be destroyed instead of auctioned or sold out of state. Alot of gun owners could have been made VERY, VERY happy by getting a turret mounted M2 or three for bottom basement prices.

How did he get them here, where did they come from, and more importantly, why would he have jumped through the hoops to have been a federally licensed dealer, only to turn around and commit such blatant and enormous gun crimes?

It makes me wonder. Maybe he had a California Assault Weapons Dealer license, had a crapload of inventory, and the ATF pounced the SECOND his license expired?

I wish they hadn't caught him

Every time you bust an American with a machine gun the terrorist win.

It makes me wonder. Maybe he had a California Assault Weapons Dealer license, had a crapload of inventory, and the ATF pounced the SECOND his license expired?

investigators turned their attention to Ferro, who has a 1995 conviction for possession of an explosive device, Telish said.

Ferro had a gun dealer's license, but lost it after his conviction.

My take is he has been an arms dealer his whole life and didn't know how to do anything else.

I wonder what the "explosive device" was?

There are a couple of things here that are only being touched on. First, this whole thing happened in California-- and Los Angeles County to boot. Second, it's reported by the MSM, which we all know never investigates anything except rumors of sexual improprieties of high-ranking Republicans.
Third, and I think this is most important, who was harmed? Sure, the guy had a bunch of guns, but none of them were sneaking out at night to kill unsuspecting soccer moms. One of his customers turned out to be a bit ahead of the curve when it comes to the revolutionary/civil war we all expect, but that's about par for the course.
Few of us here are unaware of the sterling record of the BATFE; how honest they are, how ethical they are, how kind and gentle they are, yet when the MSM tells us a dealer was convicted of having an explosive device we all roll over and accept it as gospel.
Frankly, I hope there's a thousand more guys just like him with basements full of AKs, SKSs, FALs, M14s, M16s, plenty of ammo for all of them and several cases of grenades too. There's no advantage to having a government monopoly on guns.

So, was Beltran really an "acquaintance" of Ferro, or just a guy he'd legally sold a gun to?

it looks like the writer thinks assault rifles are different from machine guns
I'm amazed that the article made such a distinction that even a lot of gun nuts don't appreciate - machine guns being capable of sustained and accurate fire, unlike assault rifles.

HOLY MOSES...

"Two-hundred assault rifles, 200 machine guns, hundreds of handguns and 200 silencers were seized," Telish said.

Among the fully automatic guns were .50-caliber weapons mounted on tripods. :what: :what: Some explosives also were seized, he said.

Belt-fed crew served weapons, huh? Now there's a guy that's about as set up for HD, as one can get. I haven't seen too many of those in my local sporting-goods store lately. Where can i order one?

Where did this guy get these things? If registered guns, he must have been a millionaire with his entire net worth invested in guns. If unregistered, that's still a truckload of money.

Not that 900 guns wouldn't be cool, especially those guns. Just imagine feeding them all, you would need your own range to shoot them all just to make sure they still feel loved. :neener:

The pistols included included vintage German Lugers, chrome- or gold-plated Western-style revolvers, and Uzis. All were well maintained and operable.

"There's only one reason why these weapons are made, and that's to kill," Telish said.
Correct.

And the weapons carried by the police are made for ...?

Is this the guy who used to live in Berdoo County out around Victorville? If so, he was an ffl who got hounded out of business by the local police and other worthless busybodies several years ago.

Maybe this lot of guns was what was left over. It isn't hard these days for the government to drive a man insane, especially if he's an FFL.

The government made me do it... :banghead:

Gotta keep in mind, that no matter how much we hate it when they say "assult rifle" - it was used correctly in this case. Remember - This is California - they still have a legal definition of the term (assult rifle) there. Not that it gives me any more faith in how things get reported, just that in this particular case/story the term was right. It's when you take your AR out of California that it ceases to be an assult rifle.

Well ... unless you assult somebody with it.

the news story reads:

Ferro had a gun dealer's license, but lost it after his conviction.

now i know the court system is slow but i dont think it took 11 years after he was convicted as a felon for the ATF to take his license away. he was convicted in 1995 and his license was taken away thereafter. this is now 11 years later? pretty weak argument.

this part of the news story made me laugh:

The pistols included included vintage German Lugers, chrome- or gold-plated Western-style revolvers, and Uzis. All were well maintained and operable.

"There's only one reason why these weapons are made, and that's to kill," Telish said.

Chrome and gold-plated Western-style revolvers are made only to kill?

Such a shame, they'll probably be turned into manhole covers. :( Of course, the ones with precious metals will no doubt be stripped first, assuming they aren't "lost". Philistines.

I wonder how they handled serving the warrant? Sounds like this could have been another Waco (tomorrow is the 13th anniversary) if they had botched the process. :uhoh:

Some of the rifles were fitted with silencers. Among the cache was a Chinese-made SKS assault rifle [sic] and other rifles illegal for subjects to own.

I made a slight but important correction. I also suspect that there were only 200 firearms in total, including semi-automatic rifles and pistols. Though it’s possible, I doubt there were any machine guns or assault rifles.
