Anybody have load data they could share with me? Specifically, I am looking for loads using a 124g Hornady XTP and Alliant Blue Dot. When I was doing my initial web "research", I found mention of Blue Dot as a go to to the SIG round. But, Alliant doesn't list the loads on their website anymore. Perhaps someone here has the actual Alliant data that they used to list?

Hornady 7th:

Blue Dot 357 sig 124gn XTP

Start -- 8.3
Max -- 10.5

Winchester WSP

357 SIG 124 gr Hornady XTP 124 gr. and 800X

I know you haven't ask for other powder data... but I have been playing with 800X for the last few weeks... while I haven't shot it over the chronograph yet I will this week if weather holds ... it does appear to be pretty dang fast and it is accurate too. Hodgdon only list one charge ... 10 grains compressed under a Speer GD 125 grain... I have tried it using the Hornady 124 124 gr XTP under that same charge and it shoots great. Since it is a compressed load... bullet set back is not a problem.

I remember 800X being the uber powder for 10mm loaders, so I can see where it would be useful for the SIG round too. Have to try some out.

Since we're talking about uber powders for the .357 Sig, AA#9 is supposed to be THE powder for .357 Sig. AA#9 is a dense ball powder that will fill the case and will also be slightly compressed preventing bullet setback. It also meters extremely well.;)

AA9 doesn't seem to post the highest velocities. Since you mention metering, that was supposodly the Achille's heel of 800X. I remember reading guys posting about 10mm loads that were hand measuring pretty much each charge because it metered so poorly. Never tried the stuff myself.

800-X does meter poorly because it's a very large flaked powder. Many reloaders weigh each charge to overcome the poor metering characteristics. THE load for a 124 gr. JHP with AA#9 is 13.0 grains max. You won't get as much muzzle blast either as compared to Blue Dot.;)

Chuck,

This information is from Hodgdon #27 manual. Bullet is the 124gr Hornady HP/XTP:

List one load only--Primer-Federal #100, C.O.L.=1.195", 10.6gr--1405 fps--36,900 psi.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. This is my first can of Blue Dot, never played with it before. I read many reports of huge muzzle flashes, which is what sold me on it
Bob, thanks for the data. Soon as my Graff's order shows up I can start putting some loads together.
