has anyone used imr 800x for 9mm? do you have any data on it? i'm shooting a xdm 4.5. looking to stay 130-135 pf. thx. btk

ive used it for 9mm. Agree, check out the Hodgdon website. I'll check my manuals and log if you dont find anything.

Hodgdon website does has some. It just surprises some me people come here asking for data without checking manufacture's website first. BTW OP I have read that 800x is a good powder but it meters like corn flakes. Would be precatious if loading near max limits.

100% agree with the cornflakes analogy on the 800x. I bought it for 10mm and it rocks!, but had to hand weigh each charge. Did not at all like dropping from 6 rds/min to 6 mins/rd.

I have not yet used it on the lawn as supplies have gotten so sparse, but...

mr._x, for your info i did check hodgdon's site and 3 of my manuals before i posted. i thought more info might be better than just 1 load description. i guess you don't think people have as much common sense as you.

Amen brother, it was one of the first powders I tried when I started, barely even knew how to set up the powder measure... you can imagine the frustration that I thought I'd just inherited with my new hobby. Thought all the powders were going to act like that.

Xtreme plated 147grain
1.13 oal
3.5, 3.7, and 3.8 grains of 800x would not reliably cycle my Kahr CM9.
3.9 grains was good.
4 grains is incredibly accurate with this gun. Probably my favorite load.

Xtreme plated 115 grain
1.10 oal
4.5, 4.7, and 4.9 grains of 800x were weak and inaccurate
5.1 and 5.3 grains shoot pretty good.

Metering? yes, it's a bit crunchy but my rcbs powder thingy throws it pretty accurately once it settles in the hopper.

800x vs 700x for metering? I've gone through several different lots of 700x this year. I recently bought two new containers and I swear it meters worse than anything I've tried--even worse than other lots of 700x.

Yes, the 800x is like cornflakes, but this lot of 700x is like saltwater taffy with peanuts.

But hey, they both make decent target loads, and are fairly clean. Most importantly, they are available.

Then maybe we could be a little more specific when asking for info. Just seem you were looking for data period. Not trying to be an a$$, just a bit more info in your original post would have gotten you a better answer. Sorry that I came at you wrong. There are people that have no data and ask for data when it is readily available from manufactures (which is first in my priority list for data).

Hmmm. Hodgdon lists loads, with max & min, for 5 bullets. And they encompass the data I have listed for my manuals, with the exception of Pet Loads by Ken Waters, which is older data.

Not knowing what bullet, out of 15 or more possibilities, you are looking for, makes your query a crapshoot, thus you have responses from all over the spectrum. Then you come out with guns blazing because you didn't get the answer you wanted?

Since each individual gun shoots differently, your best solution does not have any shortcuts. Look at the load ranges, start at the bottom and work up until you find the load that suits your purpose.

i wasn't looking for a specific answer. if i was i would have given specific info. i had been to imr's website and for my bullet weight it showed one load. so i came here to get more info. i always thought more info was better than less. i guess it's who you ask. btk

Unless you're looking for an oddball round, the best info comes from the manuals, then checked for updates on the websites.

.

That's what I do as well. Check all my manuals, etc, then go online to see what's working best for other reloaders.

What bullet weight?

i worked up some loads with the 800X. i used a xdm 9mm 4.5 w/124 fmjrn. i made three different powder weights,5.5gr.,5.2gr.,5.0gr. each wt. had four oals. 1.150,1.140,1.135,1.125. each oal had five rds. for a total of 60 rds.
the one i liked the best was- 5.5gr.,1.150oal.H.1088,L.1070,AV.1077,E.S.18.01,S.D.6.78,P.F.133.it will work for me as my tues.night load.
5.2gr.,1.125oal didn't have the best #'s but it was the most accurate.
all the 5.0grs. were under 1000 fps. wouldn't make the P.F. i wanted and barely worked the slide. so there's some of the results from my 1st try with 800X. hope it helps someone.

I have worked up loads with 800x for that same 9mm (4.5 xdm ) and a few others. 115 grain rn plated to 147 gr fmj. Metering is a downfall of this powder but I like the cleanliness and accuracy it provides. I find that much like long shot
800x tends to give better performance at mid to just under max loads.
And one more note I found that the 115 gr bullets did not do very well and left a lot to be desired, 124 and heavier were excellent.
Work up your loads, be safe and enjoy the hobby. Hope this helps you.
