Hey guys..

I need an idea of a gift to give to my uncle -- He'd greatly like a book on classic firearms, he likes revolvers, pistols and shotguns.. SO if anybody has a really great encylopedia or whatever that he could pick up and look through any time I'd appreciate input -- I've been looking on amazon but Iv'e not seen anything really nice yet.

I'd reccomend "Boston's Gun Bible" by Kenneth W. Royce writing as Boston T Party.

It's a comprehensive guide to gun rights & gun laws in America

If you're just wanting a sort of coffee-table book with lots of pictures to ogle, I found a couple on the bargain rack at Barnes & Noble about a year ago. I've enjoyed them quite a bit.

Rifles and Machine Guns by Will Fowler and Patrick Sweeney

The Illustrated Directory of Guns by David Miller

Check those racks again if you have a B&N around. I think I got the first one for $5 and the second (752 pages) for under $20.

I very much enjoyed The Complete Encyclopedia of Pistols and Revolvers by A.E. Hartink.

It has a pretty comprehensive listing of handguns organized by manufacturer, and also has an excellent glossary of gun terminology in the back. A short history of each manufacturer is included at the beginning of their respective sections, and the glossary includes history and ballistic info on just about every handgun cartridge out there. Tons of good information, and lots of pretty pictures.

ETA: I do NOT recommend The Complete Encyclopedia of Rifles and Carbines by the same author. It is not nearly as comprehensive as the Pistols book, with a few very notable omissions, and doesn't have any of the extras, like the glossary or cartridge info.
