Back in 2008, I purchased a Taurus MilPro .45 as a concealed carry weapon. An excellent weapon, I would recommend it (and have) as an in expensive and reliable sidearm. However, unless I wear super baggy shirts, or a jacket (I'm in Alabama, mind you) the handle tends to poke a little, and I am very self conscious of broadcasting that I have a gun on me . I carry IWB (front or strong side) w a Don Hume RH holster.

I am six foot two weighing in at 185. My caliber limitations are 9mm, .40, and .45, and I hesitate on buying .380. My front runner in carry choices are the Ruger sr9c & the SA-XD9 sub. I carry a SA-XD45 tactical on the job, so my experience leans toward the springers.

Holster suggestions for these also welcome :D

Look at the Kahr Budget line guns. CW9 is under $400 and the new CM9 will be $425 or so. These guns will be much slimmer than the SAs.

How do you prefer to carry? IWB, OWB or in a pocket? I would suggest trying IWB for maximum concealment but for many people it is too uncomfortable.

I can sympathize because I weigh 180 and am 6''4. I personally would go for the sr9c because I like the gun but it should be something that you like and can feel comfortable with, so maybe the XD is the right choice. As far as holsters go look into crossbreeds I do not own one but have heard good things about them.
PS maybe a Commander model 1911?. Just a thought.;)

The LC9s look like they could be carried with an IWB holster by a 12 year old wearing spandex and not print...

Though the gun is not time tested and proven, as it has barley been out for a month.

People seem to love the Kahr pistols. A friend of mine got a PM40 not too long ago, he likes it.

Try one on.

What about the 3.8 " Springfield XDM Compact , Slightly smaller profile than the XD subcompact, although it's barrel is .8" longer than the xd sub-compact.

Or... for a thinner profile don't forget the Walther PPS (Police Pistol Slim) in 9mm or 40 s&w ( .91" width) combined with the Galco "Skyops" tuckable IWB holster ( air-marshall style holster ) in Springer XD version and you can use it with the Walther or even your full size XD .45, this holster tends to work with a variety of gun models.

Another vote for Kahr though you could go with an LC9. I would just wait for the CM9.

Um size doesn't matter
skill
style
proper holster
to match your carry method

I have seen examples posted here of skinny guys who could hide a bazooka (ok, so more a large hand cannon)

and a big guy who couldn't hide a little gun,

mostly they were used as examples that you can carry whatever you want, if you learn how to carry it.

Shadow 7D,

Thats true...but some pistols are easier to work with...

I'm not a big guy myself (6' and 165 lbs.), I carried a commander length 1911 for many years (IWB) but recently switched to the G36...partly because of my bad back, partly because I wanted to carry OWB, and mostly because I wanted a high mileage, low maintenance pistol...The Kahrs look nice, I checked them out before buying the G36 but I found too many people talking about peening issues to spend my $$$ on a Kahr (just my opinion)...

The G36 carries like a dream, light as a feather, thinner than even a 1911, functions 100%, its accurate, LOTS of holster options, its a 45acp, good after market support...I was NEVER a Glock fan....but I warmed up to them quick when it became necessary for me to carry one.

My G36 had to go back to the factory due to the slide to barrel fit (barrel hood hitting the slide above the extractor.,..while it is rare, this does happen to some Glock pistols, usually the G23's)....they are replacing the slide and barrel, free of charge (including shipping)...they have had it for about 3 weeks now and I miss it a lot...the 1911 feels like a lead weight on my hip after carrying the G36 for a few weeks.

If you want a good to decent carry gun, Keltecs aren't bad, and are hard to beat on thier price point ~$250 new, ~125-200+ used, BUT are know to need a 'Fluff and Buff' before running flawlessly.

A CZ-82 or P-64, are Eastern European military surplus handguns that are easy to carry concealed, and, both have great triggers (for the P-64, a 20#+ DA, and 2# SA, scary smooth, like Match 1911 smooth SA)

And are in 9x18 Mak, which is between .380 and 9mm in power.

My wife and I both wear Crossbreed holster, they are super comfortable and available with a cant which will pitch the gun forward making for a faster smoother draw and it will lie flatter when you turn. I wear one with a USP 40 Compact (not a skinny gun) and dont worry about printing much. Also, have you considered a sub compact in an ankle holster?

25cschaefer-no ankle holster for me, chicken legs and a longer draw time kinda turn me off to that idea. But thanks for the Crossbreed recommendation. I've never heard of them before, just went to their website and browsed around. Definitely will check them out more.

Has anyone had experience w the Kel-tec pf9?

I always figured the thinner folks could conceal larger pistols. I would think that a good IWB setup and appropriately draped long shirts could cover up a Mk23 with no problem.....heck, maybe even an 870.

In any event, I would check out a 1911, Gov't or Cmdr, either should be pretty easy to make disappear for anyone.

Checkout BladeTech for holsters. I have a couple of theirs and they both conceal very well.
