I'm looking to buy a CC weapon in either .40 S&W or .45 ACP. The range I can afford is between $600 and $1000. I'm kinda leaning towards the Para Ordnance PXT Carry or something similar. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thx.

In the 45ACP, the weapon is going to be fairly large like a DW CBOB. If you stick with the 40SW, you can still find something fairly small like a HK P2000SK. Find something that you shoot well with and that feels comfortable with in your hand. For me, it's either a 1911 or a HK.

The my taurus PT145 carries 11 rounds of 45 acp and is pretty compact. A little boxier than I like but definitely concealable.

The answer is at the rental range, or in a pile of friends' guns.
Get whatever feels best in your hand, conceals as well as you need to, weighs the right amount, is sized properly, is in the caliber you want, has the capacity you need, is the color you like, fits a holster you know is good, has affordable magazines, has/lacks an accessory rail as desired, fits lights/lasers as desired, has a passive/manual safety mix you like ...
Wow, that's a LOT of factors to consider, you may have to make your own compromises.
Did I miss any features to consider?

if you want a 1911 in .40 for carry, get the EMP.
for .45 get a DW CBob
for .45 get a DW CBob
There is a lot you left out... But since we all have our favorites...
For me its the Glock 19...Reliability, adequate power, high capacity, easy to conceal, parts availability, cheap practice ammo, etc.
I also like the Kahr MK40 or K40...the steel pistols are the way to go...mine's very reliable but does wack the brass pretty good, so reloading is an issue. The Kahrs are very very easy to conceal and comfortable for all day every day carry.
Whatever you choose, get a good holster and proper belt and you should be OK...

Thx for everyones response so far. A lot of good opinions. I do like the DW CBOB and the HK. Hopefully my range will have those for rent so I can try them out before I decide.
Eddie I think you missed the part where I stated $600 to $1000 because you must know those are $2500.00 plus guns that I completely believe is a waste of money. The gains are so infinitesimal that you would only be buying the name. Kinda like buying a Rolex over a Citizen watch. One might lose a couple of seconds over a years time but who cares. Just a status symbol in my mind. Thanks anyway, but I would buy 3 or 4 guns that would equal $2500.00 before I would purchase one of those.

You should find a range that rents handguns and try some out before you buy one. What works for one may not be ideal for the next guy.
Springfield XD .40 sub compact is one of my choices.
These go anywhere from $479.00 - $549.00 which leaves you plenty of change for ammo and a good holster.
It's a great gun for not alot of money. Plus they are durable and dependable. This was written by a Glock guy:

The M&P compact in .40 - I have it in 9mm and it is a great shooter. Most accurate compact I've shot. I have two M&Ps and they're just great pistols. No failures with either, and very nice ergos- feels great in the hand and with the interchangeable backstrap is semi-customizable. Plus Smith usually has some mag specials and what not so you might be able to get a deal with some extra mags thrown in.
But I love my 9c - others will tell you to check out the XDs, and others Glocks. All are fine pistols but all of them feel different in the hand - need to handle a few and see what feels best for you - but if you decide on the M&P, you won't be disappointed.
