need a good gunsmith

Can you recommend a real good gunsmith? I want to have an ambi-safety installed on My Colt and I don't want a hack-job. The San Antonio or Austin, TX area would be real fine but not absolutely necessary.

Can you field strip your 1911? If so you can do it your self, only thing you need to do is make sure the right side grip is cut for the safety…nothing special about putting one in.

The safety I plan to buy is made by Wilson C. for Crimson Trace. CTC already has the grip notched for the tab. However, the tech. at CTC said that all 1911's are not compatible. The incompatible ones require replacement of the original safety as well.

Some say that adding an ambi-safety can be tricky. I have just bought my first 1911 and am learning about them. All advice is welcome.

Well, GE, I could just buy the CTC safety and see if it goes in without any of the problems cropping up that they say might happen. Whadyuthink? If she won't mate or binds I goes to the smith.
