I'll put in another good word for McBrides, always very knowledgeable, friendly staff, and decent prices. The only thing I can say bad about them is that they are so popular that it is sometimes hard to get to the counter.

Just do what the guys at gun shows do... no deodorant or brushing of the teeth for 2 days prior. :p A strict diet of onions and garlic also helps. :barf:

I always make way for those guys at gun shows... :D

Oh... by the way. I was at McBrides a couple weeks ago and they had an outstanding variety of ammo on hand. Everything from plinking ammo to the more rare (nowdays) premium self defense loads.

Collectors Firearms is worth a trip just to look around. Its like being in a museum.
Bought some US insignia there but never a gun, retail++.

Unfortunately they NEVER have ANY 10mm at all when I go in.

Is Ken Lee's still open near Houston? I haven't been there since 1978.

No they closed down a few years ago. Got to where there was as much SCUBA stuff in there as old guns, and then folded.

Bachman Pawn on Dallas side - Elk Castle on Fort Worth side. If in Fort Worth this weekend (29-30 Aug) there is a gun show at Will Rogers - not as frantic and overcrowded as the Dallas market hall shows.

If you're going to be in Fort Worth, Winchester Gallery is sure worth a look. Don't expect to see many hunting guns, but expect to see plenty of Antique Winchester lever actions. Decent selection of AR's,etc. But their stock & trade is pistols. Most of their showroom floor is dedicated to showcases of pistols.

The powderhorn in San Antonio is probably the best place I've found here.

Small shop, courteous staff, and decent prices on just about everything.

Dury's, Don's, Nagel's, Texas Guns, all were way overpriced and the staff was inattentive or downright rude. I have bought one gun from dury's, and that was because Dave at the powderhorn couldn't come close to matching the LEO price on a Glock 19 for me.

I will pay more in a shop that I like, but not 20-30% more.

I want to agree with the poster on Carter's Country... Way overpriced and getting someone to help you is like pulling teeth. They seem to like to talk to the "good old boys" though. I've been out to Fountain Firearms and wasn't too impressed. Small shop, prices didn't seem great, but I only dropped in the one time.

I still need to make it out to Tomball to check out the store out there. But, if someone were in the Houston area and wanted to see some guns, I would take them to Collector's Firearms. They have enough guns there to both start AND end a war.
