Need a little help/advice on a Colt Lawman

Hey all, I have a chance to pick up an Colt Lawman MK III and I thought I'd run it by you all for thoughts.

I would rate the finish a strong 97/98% with no significant marks or bruises. A little line of muzzle wear around the end of the barrel and a very faint drag line.

No box or papers and it has Pachmayr grips, no factory wood.

It's the 4" blued, unshrouded barrel serial # L590xx

I saw one just like it (except with wood grips) close yesterday on Gunbroker for $465 + $25 ship + FFL fees. (See it here)

Is the above auction indicative of current going price or a typical no reserve Gun Broker feeding frenzy?

My guy is asking $350 and I can probably get it for less.

Interested in opinions, thanks.

I would say that $350 is a good price. All of the Colt revolvers seem to be going up these days, sometimes beyond their realistic value.

I would agree with $350 or even lower. Those guns are not really rare, I believe that the outrageous prices sometimes seen on GB are a result of a preceived "rarity" and bought by some with more money than a realistic appreciation of how much the guns are really worth. I predict a drop in the prices of most Colts when everyone realizes how many of them there are around. The Lawman is a gun known primarily for its ruggedness, not its precision build or intrinsic worth. Same goes for all the "MK" series. Of course there are rare Colts, which are worth big bucks to a collector.

L590xx was made in 1977.

The Lawman is basically the same gun as the Trooper Mark III and King Cobra.
It's very possibly the strongest medium frame revolver ever made, and is an absolute tank.
The Lawman was designed and built specifically for unlimited shooting with .357 Magnum ammo.


Only one "watch out" and that's to use snap caps for dry firing to prevent a possible broken firing pin.
Broken firing pins are a factory change ONLY, and attempts to change it without a special press device only the factory has will damage the frame.
