Hi All.

I remember shooting a friend's Benelli in AZ back in the early 90's. I've wanted one since. This thing was HUGE and had an enormous capacity (9 or 10?). I can't seem to find them new like that.

Anyway, as luck would have it I just received a new in box Remington 11-87 Super Magnum 12 gauge, 3.5 chamber, 28 inch barrel. I haven't even taken the parts out of the box yet.

While searching for magazine extension info for this gun I came across the Benelli vs. Rem (and others) thread and learned a little about both. But what I haven't been able to figure out yet is with this particular 11-87, which magazine extension will bring it flush (or close to flush) with the end of the barrel and what capacity will that give me? It seems the Choate brand would be best?

I've also been thinking about maybe trading this for a Benelli (yes, I know it would take TWO of these for ONE Benelli) but I still can't find that elusive Benelli hi-cap model.

My uses for this are mainly fun . . . I don't get to hunt much and I'm new to shotguns (that could change in the future). I bought my first one used from a friend last year . . a Mossberg 500 with 2 barrels.

So to sum up . . . which mag extension to get most rounds on this 28 inch barrel gun and/or should I just trade this toward a Benelli . . . and if so, which model will give me 9 or 10 round capacity in an autoloader? I doubt that I'll miss the 3.5 inch chamber if I trade.

Thanks in advance for the advice/suggestions.

Happy Holidays!

Be patient, someone will be along. Seems something has folks all a flutter and busy. Must be a gift giving day of some kind or maybe a ball game in town...

I am not the one to ask. I prefer bone stock shotguns, 2 3/4" chambers only, and no mag extensions or side saddles on a repeating shotgun (pump or semi).
My home gun is a NEF Youth 20 ga single shot shotgun.

Someone will be along...

I don't believe anyone currently manufactures a mag extension that would extend flush w/ a 28" barrel. A 10 round mag extension will be flush w/ a 26" barrel. Also mag tubes made for an 870 will fit the 1100 11/87 as well. Choate makes a very good product. I have their 10 round unit on a winchester 1200 and have had no issues w/ it.

Years ago I shot three gun with a Good Ol' Boy. Buster stood about 6'5" and weighed in close to 350. Size 15 shoes if I recall.

He shot an 1100 in the shotgun events with a full length extension under a 28" barrel which I tried out a few times. I've not seen a more nose heavy shotgun. Fully loaded, that thing would lower testosterone levels and cause one to take up interpretive dance. Buster could handle it but not as long as I could an 870 with a 3 shot extension.

Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

Busta ...I believe the Benelli you seek is the precursor to the M1Super90 ...the one I just bought two weeks ago - 121M1 .I paid a paltry sum for it - and its a beauty! 19.5" cylinder choked barrel ,factory 7 shot mag tube with a wood stock . With the mag tube full ,rack the bolt ,drop one on the carrier and one into the chamber ...9 shots !

For the Remington magazine extension: call Choate, ask to speak with him, explain what you have and ask him for his suggestions.

Me, I agree with Dave. That shotgun would be a hiking stick with the capabilty of going "boom" if only you could lift it fully loaded.

But, as I've said, see what Choate might suggestion.

Thanks for all of the replies so far. :)

The nose heavy thing sounds like a deal breaker . . . especially since I'm leaning toward the Benelli anyway. And thanks r6j6b for identifying that gun. I can't say for sure but I bet that was the one!

You may soon see this in the classified section. It is literally brand new and still in the box.

BP
