Need a new 22

If you want to emulate full size gun there is a Sig 229R clasic 22.cal with interchangeably upper between 9 and 40 cal., that caught my attention lately.

I have had the SR22 since they first came out. Just recently changed out the firing pin and other parts as they were worn out. Yes a very nice gun. Very reliable. I also shoot the Phoenix Hpa which is a great trainer for pocket guns with the short barrel and love the feel of the 1911 style grip. Terrific low cost guns.(Actually liked it so much bought a second). Amazingly reliable as the SR22 but lower cost, better trigger. Do not understand why Ruger made the safety to move the opposite way from the other SR series.
Also love the feel of the Bersa. It was a finicky gun until I cut three coils off the recoil spring. Now shoots great, and while it use to shoot just High Velocity ammo it now shoots standard. Gets a few failures but not a problem. Just enough to train for.
What is my favorite 22? THE RUGER LCR. Love it like crazy and a great trainer for my LCR9MM which I also love.

No brainer, get the Kadet. What's $100 and some going to really do to your short, mid or long term situation versus shooting your first listed carry gun "as is" with .22 RF ammo?

Looking for opinions on a good, reliable, fun for plinking 22. Want something that is similar to my centerfire pistols I have and carry which are CZ 75 and XD mod 2 pistols. Not wanting the SA ones like Ruger MK, Buckmark, SW Victory. Want it to be similar to what I have and carry. SA/DA or Striker fired OK. I'm considering Ruger SR22, Walther PPK/S, PPQ 22 and Bersa Thunder. Want to keep it in the $300 range. Looking for opinions and suggestions. Thanks.

Cowbell....was looking at the same pistols a while back. And for the same reasons. I chose the Bersa Thunder 22. Liked the general reliability of the Ruger SR22 but not its looks or how it felt in my hand. Loved the sexy Walther PPK/S but read a number of reviews about reliability and its construction.

Went with the Bersa based on generally good reviews and good looks. It has proven to be a reliable and fun pistol for plinking. So long as I feed it a steady diet of CCI MiniMags, it runs great. Standard velocity rounds won't cycle the slide.

I did do a bit of a fluff and buff on the magazine. Basically a light sanding and smoothing of the button guide just to smooth out the hitches.

All and all, I like this little pistol a lot. Has a long DA pull but it's amazingly smooth. And the SA pull has a bit of creep but it breaks OK. And fits my hand just fine. Three dot sights are a little hard to see but that's more related to my old eyes than anything else.

Accuracy is pretty good, like nearly every fixed barrel blowback pistol I've fired. It's not a target pistol by any means (I have a Ruger Mk III 22/45 that's a little tack driver), but it is just a hoot to shoot.

Liked it enough that I've just picked up a Bersa Thunder in 380.

Good luck with your choice.

I like my sr22 a lot. Mine was one of the "first gen" shorter barreled versions. Once I found the correct grip sleeve, it's been a wonderful shooter for me, and eats whatever I feed it. I have heard the Sig is a nice shooter, but very ammo particular.

I am thinking about getting the Kadet conversion. Was surprised how much they have gone up in price though. Wish I had picked one up many years ago when under 300. 420 seems expensive to me when just getting the slide, barrel and mags. For a bit more I could get another complete CZ. That’s why I was leaning towards getting maybe one of the others mentioned used in the 200 range, but I may wind up with the Kadet.

I was a bit surprised too when I saw what the retail price is now on the Kadet II .22 conversion kit. When I bought my P01 I asked the sales clerk if the Kadet assembly would work on it and he said yes. Once he saw that I was interested in it he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I went with it. The Kadet slide required a few minutes with a small file to get it to fit right and works perfectly once it's on there.

I’m a big fan of .22 conversions. I actually built a .22 Glock 19 to practice and plink with. I put a Glock frame with an advantage arms kit which as my research dictated was superior to tacsol. If you play your cards right you could be into the two parts for about 400 or a little less. Maybe a little more than you want to spend but it’s a nice setup.
