FNP .45 or Kimber Custom II. I got my Kimber for 650, brand new. Just slap some Meprolights on it and you're in business!
Let me know how it goes!

You really, really need to get some trigger time with your front runner.

I love my RIA 1911 ($400 base, options are adding to that, like mandatory grip upgrade).

My wife's Ruger is stupid reliable (I swear I could drop a bag of marbles in it and it's shoot 'em) and accurate--for her. I hate the thing, trigger pull is sloppy (and I shoot AKs) and the balance is wonky to me.

Guys on the internet can't tell you what you'll like. But we'll give it shot. :)

Of that list, the P220 is probably the BEST.

now, after that i would say its a tossup between the FN and the HK.

S&W 1911 - they usualay run right out of the box, nice fit and finish,
accurate and reliable is what I've found with mine
Beavertail, skelton cmdr hammer three hol long trigger, beveled mag well
Matte satin finish stainless, and hardly any sharp edges incl. slide serrations - I've got smooth HOgue Rosewood grips. No FTEs with the EExternal extractor S&W got it right.

Several nice complements at the range from fellow members on the sW1911

My .02 is that I could never be able to rationally justify an HK .45ACP over its Glock counterpart, when I could get 2 Glocks for the price of one HK, along with inexpensive accessories, magazines, etc.

Let's see, Glock 21 roughly $550?
HK USP, $760.
Sig P220, $700
The Glock is a good gun, but it's not a USP (or a Sig), and it's not half the price. I guess I'm getting tired of the standard 'twice the price' response, kind of like 'Sigs rust' and all the other ignorant internet 'wisdoms'.
