normal keep all my handguns with the rifles in a big monster safe downstairs. always kept the P226 by the bed in a holder attached to the mattress..i now have kids that are mobile, so that aint' gonna fly any more:)

I need a smaller safe that i can bolt in my bedroom somewhere. it can be fairly small, just needs to hold a pistol and a few magazines. Don't really care if it has a keycode or fingerprint reader (just don't want a traditional key system). Also, want something sturdy enough to survive a home break in when i am away if possible (but if needed, i can drop in the big guy downstairs if i can't find a sturdy smaller one)

any ideas?

(just noticed the title, i apparently can't spell today:))

I second the GunVault. I've used one for 4 years. They are very well made and you have easy access when needed.

Bass Pro shops also carrier a few different sizes of Winchesters similar to the GunVault. The main difference is the Wins have a 4 button code. However, I can get in very quickly with it.

I have one of these bolted under my home office desk. No one can see it and can open in 2 seconds.

Then I have this in my closet that also takes 2 seconds to open. Mine is not finger print, but key pad instead.

I really like them both, can get to the gun real quick without my kids getting into them.

American Security makes a good lock box for one handgun. It uses the mechanical Simplex lock that is very reliable. It comes with two wholes in the bottom so it can be bolted to a night stand very easily.

I've got a Stack-On like this. Now virtually all of these small safes have a key backup in the case of loss of power or malfunction. I keep the keys in the big safe.

+1 on the Gunvault - I use this at my bedside and feel confident it serves its purpose perfectly.

Another +1 on the Gunvault. I'm able to keep three full size handguns per level in the larger one. Opens very quickly too.
