Pretty much like the title says. I would like a thigh rig for my G19 with my Surefire X200 mounted on it. I've never worn a thigh rig before, so I don't really know what to look for. I'm also curious, can I use the holster without my weapon added? Not a huge issue, just wondering. Price is a big factor for me, but I don't want to crap that can't secure my weapon.

I found this bladetech one. Would there be a way to mount it to a thigh rig so I could use it on a thighrig platform and on my duty belt when not wearing an LBV?

Another Bladetech, but to pricey IMHO

I like this one because I really am on a low budget. Any thoughts?

Safariland should have a 6004 for your gun and light combo. They retail in the $115 range.

And I hate to break it to you, but there's no such thing as a good and cheap holster. Those nylon one-size-fits-all holsters are bad news. Save up for a real holster, it's worth it to not have your gun pop out at a bad moment. :)

Depending on what your price range is, you can give Dan Hillsman over at Hillsman Holsters a ring 713-560-2454 http://www.hillsmanholster.com/
very nice guy. Fast turnaround, and you can discuss exactly what you want with him and he can build it. Don't fret over there not being a listing for thigh rigs on his website, he's got a lot of stuff that's not on the website.

I had a custom built for my G34/TLR-1 for offduty/non-patrol work carry. Great holster, and it's sturdy enough I probably can carry it on patrol with no trouble.

I've worn a Safariland 6004 after wearing many other cheapie rigs. Hardly any shifting around while in the prone (shooting a sniper match) or carrying around the property (1000 acres with lots of black bears). I have a tough time getting rid of my 6004 since I love that plate so much. It might be a bit on the hot side during the Summer months but the 6004 is very stable and comfortable. Now, you might consider it's upgraded brother the 6005 with a quick release Fastex style setup to clip and unclip from your DCU/BDU pant belt.

Safariland 6004/ 6005 rigs are pistol /light specific so (don't quote me here) your light & pistol combination might not fit into a 6004 they produce. I just carry a Gov't 1911 in my Safariland 6004. :)

Now being 4'18" LOL, I found my Safariland 6004 a bit on the long and low side, so I rigged up some old scuba diving belt material and made up a replacement hanger with a 2" Fastex QR buckle and I was good to go, very convenient for wearing around all day at the range (safety instructor and bear repellant)

YMMV

Cheers,
Barney

Thanks for the help guys. Most likely I'm go with the safariland or a custom made one depending on the price. I like the 6005 idea of being able to convert it to wear on my piistol belt, that helps justify the price a bit. I'll post pics when I get it.

I might be diverting the topic a little, but may I ask why you want a thigh rig? Most folks get them for specific purposes, and knowing your intent might help with recommendations. If you want simply because you want one though, we've all been there before. :p

The security job I'm working for might require it, if we get a overseas job. We use vests, lbvs, and carbines in training and I prefer to have a thigh rig (or ideally one that can convert to belt use also) because my standard kydex holster gets in the way on my belt.

Normally though it's just a the belt holster and a handheld G2. Since I have this highspeed X200 I figured I needed a holster that could accomodate that on the thigh and my belt if possible.

Fair enough. If you don't want it down so far, but just far enough to clear your vest, you can hike the hanger strap up and remove the top leg strap on the 6004. If you like that setup, you can further mod the rig by Dremeling out the top square corners of the legplate to give yourself a little more flexibility. Not my idea, and pictures of what I'm tlking about can be found here I've not done it myself since I like to wear my thigh rig far enough down that my hand settles on the weapon if I drop my arm straight down, but some just need enough drop to clear the LBV. The 6004 is hard to beat once you get used to the motion, but that's the same of any holster.
