Need a Unique Scope

I am a right handed guy with left master eye dominance. As I have normally shot rifles right handed using my right eye (non dominant eye), are there any scopes that I can attach to a 11mm scope rail (for a .22lr semi-auto rifle) that can correct the "optical error" and enable me to shoot using my right hand and non dominant eye?

I was told that such "off-set" scopes exist. My budget is $350.

Hmm, not fully comprehending your question. I take from the first half the you now shoot right handed using your right eye, but are asking on the second portion for a set-up to shoot right handed using your right eye, which is what you're doing now.

If your left eye dominant and shoot right handed I would suggest either learning to shoot left handed or switch your eyes.

You can learn to shoot left handed with practice, and be very proficient....trying to become right eye dominant.....I don't know if you can. Any Optometrists out there????

If you change your equipment and you handicapping yourself (to some extent). Just my thoughts.

most scopes have a diopter adjustment. w/ a 22 rimfire, you will also be in need of either a scope designed for 22's (paralax) or a scope w/ an adjustable objective...

i'm not sure that i am in full comprehension, either, though.

the rings will attach to the rail, and most all rings for 22's are 1" for the scope. there is no shortage of rings for a 22 that go onto the rail, and hold a 1" scope. it shouldn't be hard at all to find what you want - just look for a scope w/ a paralax adjustment (because every scope i can think of has diopter adjustments). something like a leupold 4-12 w/ ao should be about perfect.

To all:

When I was drafted into the army in my country, I was issued with an M-16A1 and advised to shoot right handed but with both eyes open and an eye patch covering the left lens of my spectacles. Due to problems with my glasses fogging up, I eventually gave up on shooting this way and began to shoot using my right hand and non-dominant right eye. I adjusted for the windage error caused by my right eye by adjusting the rear sight of the M-16.

Fast forward to the present day many years after my honourable discharge from active service and I am now shooting as a hobby with a rented .22lr bolt action rifle. The rifle does not have iron sights so I am forced to use to use the already attached tasco scope. I HATE shooting with my left hand as it feels VERY unnatural and clumsy so I am forced to use my right and non-dominant right eye for aiming.

*deep breath* Ok....so while the tasco scope does have some from of adjustment for windage, I find that it does not fully conpensate for the windage error caused by using my right eye. Hence, I find that I have to "aim-off" in order to hit the 7-ring or better at 50 meters.

Therefore, my question is whether there is a scope out there that can FULLY windage compensate for using my right hand and non-dominant right eye?

kannonfyre.....There are scope bases and scope rings that are windage adjustable....however I doubt that by moving the adjustment for both the rings and the base would move the scope far enough to comfortably shoot for you. Perhaps you can have a scope base modified to suit your needs. Shouldn't be too difficult for a competent machinist.

Millett makes rings that are windage adijustable on bothe front and rear rings. You in essence "twist" the scope off bore axis with them. I had a rifle once where the scope base holes were drilled off-center. With the Millett rings, I was able to correct for that.

A man I know has lost the use of his right eye. He had a smith fashion a steel base with mounts that moves the scope to his left about two or three inches. This set-up is ugly as all get out but it works for him.

If you wish to shoot off the right shoulder with the left eye, an offset scope mount as Chaw describes is the only way I know. None are manufactured that I know of and it will be a rather expensive custom proposition.
I worked from old pictures and helped a friend design an offset rib for his wife's trap gun when she lost the sight in her right eye and could not/did not shift to the left shoulder, so it can be done. Bring money.

Williams makes side scope mounts with rings offset to put the scope over the barrel. I wonder if they would go on backwards?

There are several paintball applications that may work for you if you look around. These are made for mounting scopes around the hoppers.
