I'm looking for informaiton on having an older Weaver scope rebuilt. Seems I've seen a reference to someone who does this sort of work reasonably, but I can't locate it on my search. I'm thinking it was a man with a hispanic surname who used to work for the old Weaver Company in El Paso.

Anyway, I just traded for a rifle with an old steel tube Weaver 1.5 to 4.5 X variable. It is a really nifty item, and just exactly right for this .35 Whelen bolt gun. Problem is, the scope is all dim and looks cloudy. I suspect it has been taken apart at some time.

I'd appreciate any information on a good reconditioner, along with phone number or 'net link.

Best,
Johnny

"Try Optical Sevices Co. Tel 505-589-3833. Bill Ackerman-used to work for Weaver when they were in El Paso."

They say finding parts, if you need them, can be a real problem.

Found it:

According to my records, I contact weaver by telephone at their El Paso location using the number on their web site and then followed up with a letter requesting replacement parts. The charge for the parts was nominal. I'm not sure if this helps, as I already knew which parts were necessary to fix my scope rather than wanting it reconditioned.

Good luck.

Just what I needed - - -

Thank you very much, both of you.

I'll try the Weaver 800- line first. This scope appears to be an older one, so they may not be anxious. If no joy there, I'll try the other guy.

Come to think of it, I have an older Wideview 3-9 vaiable, also a steel tube. Elder son kept complaining about it being dim, and I replaced it with a Leupold I got at a sale. May be worth repairing it, as well.

Again, I appreciate the information.

Best,
Johnny

Humphff - - - Update on my quest . . . .

Well, I just got off the phone with Mr. Bill Ackerman in New Mexico. He was cordial, but said my old scope is worth about three or four bucks. Parts are impossible to find, and they, Optical Services, don't even work on this kind of scope. They specialize in the high-end target and varmint scopes.

Disappointing, of course, but I appreciate his candor. Looks as if my best bet is to just look for a similar model, in better condition, at a gun show.

I was busy at work today, and wasn't able to call the Weaver repair place in Georgia til after they closed. I'll still call them, but won't be surprised if I get a similar response.

Best,
Johnny
