Hello all.

I have narrowed it down to 3 choices:

Remington 700 SPS Tactical
Savage 12FV
FN TSR

The Remington and Savage are in the ~$600 price range and the FN is ~$900.

I personally don't see what the FN has that justifies the extra $$$, so it's a distant 3rd.

I REALLY like the looks of the SPS Tactical, the 12FV has that oh so sweet accu-trigger.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Savage

Kind of odd comparing a 20" to a 26" barreled rifle...

I'd take the Savage; better value and more flexible in my mind.

for me it would be the Remington, son has one for his coyote rifle and it is very accurate.

I prefer the 700, Have a long action PSS. But if I was in the market for a .223/5.56 bolt gun I would seriously look at the new Savage Varmit that takes the M-16 magazine.

Cheers,

ts

I have a SPS tactical and like it. It shoots UltraMax 55gr ballistic tips under 1 MOA, that has been good enough that I haven't tried to work up a load for it. If I want to get picky I would have to say it weights in at 10lbs with scope & sling. It is also nose heavy to the point a bipod or rest is really needed.

After owning my Savage 12FV for two years............Savage! This rifle is insanely accurate!

Another vote for the Savage! I don't have a 12, but I have a model 11 in .223, and is an insanely good shooter for the money!

Savage, but have you considered their Model 25 LV?
I have this gun and it's a great shooter. Shoots sub-moa with multiple brands of factory ammo at 100 yards. I think they may have discontinued it and moved the Lightweight Varminter (LV) to the Model 11s or something...anyways, mine was less than $600 out the door

Anyways, I vote Savage. Great value for the money

I have the Savage model 12 FCV and I love it. Shoots sub moa with a variety of different manufacturers ammo. It's almost boring how accurate this rifle shoots .

gonna say go with the fn, kinda like the new kid on the block and not many reviews as savage or remington has under their belt. but want somethin other than the savage and remington, id say give this rifle a shot, the new fn bolt guns are accurate right outa the box, heres a picture, target on left was shot at 300y target on right 100y and thats factory ammo i must say not bad at all. imagine with hand loads.

To add to my original post and I just went to look at what a Savage 12FV is since I wasn't sure. I have a Savage FC16SS, think I got the model right, anyway it is a .243, accutrigger, box mag, synthetic on stainless and shoots very well. The SPS tac, has an adjustable trigger, XMark Pro I believe. The triggers are different but neither holds the accuracy back in my experience.

I am not familiar with the FN but what little you can find seems to be positive. I believe accuracy wise you will be happy with any of the 3. So that leaves price and more subjective criteria like looks. The 12FV is 6" longer, all barrel length, than the SPS, specs show it being heavier as well. If you rule out the FN on price, to me your choice would come down to a 26" vs. 20" barrel. Popular internet thought a couple years ago when I bought my SPS was .223 hits max velocity out of a 22" barrel.

If you could find a store with both the Savage & Remington I bet one is going to feel right when you put your hands on them. Personally I already find my SPS nose heavy, I doubt I would like it with 4 more inches of barrel hanging out there but you might. It's great to have choices!

my vote would be a CZ 527 american,beautiful looking rifle,deadly accurate,5 shot detachable magazine.and I own one

I was looking on Savage's website and they have a 25 Walking Varminter.

Anyone have any info on this model?

Thanks.

I am going with savage. the twist rate is 1 in 9" and it shoots 75gr A-Max great. I have a Model 10 predator and it shoots 1/4 min 100 yards any time you can. I have shot it out to 1150 yds. its a lot better at 900yds and closer but it is amazing. my dad had a rem predator 1 in 10" twist wouldn't stabilize the 75gr bullets. but shot 1/4 min with 40gr v-max and 60 gr solid base v-max. the factory Remington triggers suck but for $200. you can put a jewel in it. My main point would be that for your money the savage will be race ready and out shoot anyone else's rifle off the shelf.

I'd take the FN too, if you don't mind the extra money - never heard of FN producing anything less than excellence. If dollars are something you think about before spending them (and I assume they are, or you'd just have bought all three), I'd take the Savage. I've lost faith in Remington for the time being; and even if you're a Remington fan, Savage makes great rifles.

Don't overlook the CZ-527.

Odd's are, it will out-shoot any of the others mentioned right out of the box.

It's a tossup between the Remington and Savage. I've owned both and like both. You'll find the Savage more accurate out of the box then the Remington, I always have. However, invest in a Timney trigger and lose the SPS stock and the Remington will surprise you.

So, it boils down to supurb accuracy out of the box or upgrading the Remington over time. Still a fough choice.

I would stick to the Remington or the Savage. you can always find a gun smith to screw a new barrel on one for you. the other stuff you'll have to look for someone. Savage is hands down the best bang for your buck. Remington is a good one if you may want to build a custom rifle in the future. But I can assure you gunsmiths are more likely to build on Remington or Savage.
