Need advice: CDI bottom and DBM for Rem700

I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint with a Bell and Carlson tactical stock installed. Currently, it is shooting sub-MOA but the internal ammo compartment is poorly designed. Feeding and loading of ammo is unreliable.

I contacted Remi and they strongly discouraged me to mod the rifle to use detachable mags. Reason: loss of rigidity and frame integrity issues.

I'm looking into modifying the rifle to use DBM via a CDI Bottom and probably using a ACIS mag.

Questions:

[1]Are the CDI bottom reliable? Are they as rigid as the original Remi's? Anyone compared the two in terms of the materials used and rigidity?

[2]Is the installation of the CDI bottom pretty straightforward or do I need to modify anything on the Rem700?

[3]Also, what mags do you recommend besides the $85 AICS mags?

Check out snipershide. Lots of guys over there use them. You'll get a lot more information just searching around there.

From what I've seen, they work well and the AI mags are second to none. The only thing you have to watch out for is that the guy that does the inletting for you knows what he's doing. Too deep, not deep enough or canted and you'll probably have troubles.

Just take a look over at snipershide and do some reading up. CDI isn't the only game in town.

As for Remington's discouraging the DBM, I don't know what to say. I can't see the piece of trash Remington bottom metal adding much in the way of rigidity. Well, it might add some with the stock that the rifle came in, but I doubt that it will make a difference in that B&C stock.

Yup, the inletting thingy is a deterrent for me to make that decision. I may decide to get a new ar10 instead.

Detachable box mags.

Check out HS Precision their trigger guard fits in the Rem. stock and comes with 10 round capacity. Just came out with the 10 round clip. I've used them and they feed great. Al

Another to consider for an almost drop in install is Wyatt's. The only problem with either the HSP or the Wyatt's is that they both take proprietary magazine and they are pretty expensive.
