OK, I currently have $800-1000 to spend on guns (I can go to $1000 or even a bit more but I'd like to keep it closer to $800). There are several guns I want. However, I am currently looking at a few options job/school wise and depending upon what I pick this might be my last gun purchase for as few as 2 months or as long as a year.
I have most of my basic bases covered already for handguns so it is primarily for fun (though I don't have an "ideal" CCW auto, a lightweight snub to go along with my Taurus 85, a large bore revolver, or a pocket pistol). I have a few strong rifle wants/needs but I rarely get to the rifle range (I only make it two or three times a year). Sure, if I get a nice rifle or two I might make it more, but I probably should wait until I start making it more often before I pay the money for a nice rifle. I also am in need of a shotgun (I don't currently own one).
Well, I am thinking about three broad possibilities (with the details mentioned below all being guns I strongly want, some of which have been put off for as long as a year or two). I might wait a month or two to save a few hundred more so I can get an M1A or Valtro (both guns I strongly want, but again I could still wait for them). I might spend the limit on something nice now (I don't have anything now that cost more than $500, something nicer to compare might be nice). I may use the $800-1000 to buy two or three less expensive guns that I'd like (there are some nice guns in the <$500 range and this option would cover more bases).
Some of the specifics (in case those will help in your answer) I'm considering are:
Save another month or two:
-Valtro
-M1A
-high end FAL
-nice O/U (OK for HD, good for informal fun, will allow me to get into skeet/trap)
-Kimber CDP (probably a 4" or 3")
Buy one nice gun now:
-HK USP
-HK P7 (if I can get a nice one for under $1K)
-used Kimber CDP (again, probably 4" or 3")
-Kimber Pro Carry
-SA 1911 Loaded
-basic Bushmaster (or similar quality) AR15
-basic, but decent, FAL
-Garand
-Python if I can find a nice one under $1K
-Kahr K or P 9
Buy two or three less expensive guns:
-NAA Guardian in .32
-Beretta Tomcat
-Taurus 850 or 85 in aluminum or titanium
-Taurus 905 (new 9mm snub)
-S&W 642 or (less likely) 637
-Taurus PT 911
-used BHP
-another CZ varient (probably the compact, SA or used PCR)
-Ruger Mini-14
-cheap AR 15 or Armalite AR 180 (~$600-650, I might be able to add a used wheelgun)
-3" K-frame (to go along with my 3" S&W 65LS)
-S&W 908, 3913, or CS9
-Kahr K or P 9 (plus a used revolver)
-.41mag revolver (S&W 57 or 58 or Taurus Tracker)
-Vaquero
-.45LC DA revolver (probably S&W 25)
-Lever carbine in .357 and/or .44mag (could use at pistol and rifle ranges)
-M1 Carbine (could use at pistol and rifle ranges)
-Taurus 445 or 450 (.44spl or .45lc snub)
-Charles Daly 3" 1911
-SA Mil-Spec (either full-size or compact)
-18" or 20" Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 pump shotgun (for HD and fun at the range, with an additional barrel I could also learn skeet/trap)
There are more, but that gives a good idea of what I am considering. I am having a very hard deciding even on the basic idea (one gun now, one gun but save and get an even nicer gun, get a few decent guns that fit more than one niche) let alone the specific gun.
I thought I was leaning towards the one nice gun now (primarily the P7, used CDP, Garand or AR) but I'm strongly thinking about two or three "lesser" guns now instead (there are several on that list that I've wanted for some time). Another factor is that if I knew I'd make it to the rifle range enough to make it worth it (and if I had $1200-1500) it would primarily be between the Garand and M1A. Of course, I don't make it to the rifle range often, and since my favorite gun is my Win 30-30 I'm not sure just adding a really nice rifle will change that.
If I knew I'd be buying several more guns in the next year it wouldn't be so tough, but since it is possible this might be my last for as long as a year it is a tougher decision. I'd greatly appreciate your feedback and advice.
