Autolite, what weapons or other dangerous tools are legal to own in Canada? Which are legal to carry? Can't you even get a shotgun to keep at home?

Pardon me if I don't know what kind of laws you have in Canada.

Get a bear. Grizzley, Black, Polar, doesn't matter. A bear is the ultimate crime deterent. You think anyone is going to mess with a guy who has a bear? Nope, never.

Eleven Mike, we are allowed to own all sorts of nifty firearms, we are just not allowed to keep them loaded and/or unlocked in the home. As a matter of fact I was told that, under Canadian law, if you feel threatened during a break in, you are obligated to attempt to flee your own house! If you defend your home and the BG gets hurt, you must be able to demonstrate that you were unable to flee!

PS: A bingo hammer is one of those little tack hammers that the little old ladies use to fasten down their bingo cards. It might not be an effective defensive weapon but it may keep the BG off his guard long enough to get out your bow and arrow ...

I would ask a LEO what tools are legal? How does a person cut down large brushy areas? Is a machete legal? When guns were banned in Africa somewhere, machetes killed millions.

A little 16 oz. propane torch waved in my face would get me to back off. Then again, when I lived in Wisconsin, I had a 20 pound LP tank with a 5,000,000 BTU ice melter on a 10 foot long hose. Now that is something NO ONE is coming through.

jerkyman45, actually I do have my own black bear in the back yard. The trouble is that he is off shift until next May ...

I would be happy to sell you one of my trained attack squirrels. They are much better than attack dogs, which are trained to go for the throat.:p

Vern Humphrey, that sounds like a great idea! We've just gotta keep PETA from hearing about it ...

I have a friend who lives in a two-story condo with a steep staircase. As her bedroom is in the upper story, I told her she should get a second fridge and put it at the top of the stairs. As long as she can get to that fridge, it would be pretty hard to get up those stairs while that thing is coming down.
What's wrong with you Eleven Mike??? You go suggesting something like that and someone from the Canadian government happens to see it and BAM! Next thing you know, they've banned refrigerators and 2 story houses!

Kitchen knives? Can you even keep those in your house? How about a big pair of scissors? Maybe a hunk of galvanized water pipe in at least 1" diameter?

I think we've got the perfectly legal Canadian defensive weapon. An Oilers hockey stick sharpened at one end a hockey sock filled with Loonies tied to the other. It's portable, politically correct and culturally unique! The BG's don't stand a chance ...

Things must be pretty bad in Canada if police officers are handing out advice like this!!

Depends where you live, where I used to live, the drug addicts didn't care how they got money for a fix. They'd steal the pennies off a dead mans eyes.

For defense you have to use something that is not a weapon, your feet are considered a weapon, and axe hande without an axe head on it is a tool, hatchets and axes, complete units are weapons even if they are for cutting wood...

Weird laws...

If you're the victim of crime, it's your fault because you're a white male and white males repress non-whites which causes them to become criminals! Even if you're attacked by a white male, somehow it's your fault for repressing him and forcing him into a life of crime. So your question is moot.

My suggestion? Pay more taxes to coddl- er, I mean, rehabilitate criminals, and then buy a copy of The Communist Manifesto just for kicks.

Lots of interesting ideas and viewpoints. I am somewhat disappointed though. The point of my initial post was to seek recommendations from those who have denied me the use of my firearms for self protection. I have always felt that those who would prohibit the actions of others are morally obligated to offer viable, at least equally effective alternatives. Still waiting ...

If I understand your intentions correctly, I would suggest asking the question again on an anti-gun forum. Are there any of those around?

..Or is this the answer you seek, "Your best defense is running out the backdoor, screaming like a 12 year old girl the whole time!"

"You afraid some baby seals are going to come in and get their revenge, eh?"

Seriously, what they'd tell you is that you shouldn't be concerned about the possibility for harm in a nation that averages between 500 and 600 homicides per year.

The gun control issue comes down to one of basic premises, and you're never going to change someone's mind on those. (I am rather pessimistic as to the usefulness of political dialogue.)

The way antis look at it is that if all guns were banned you wouldnt need one to defend yourself. Their view is very neive. I have yet to find this magic button that will erase guns from existance.

jerkyman45- thanks for the new sig :D

I would suggest you try the whistle idea and if that dosnt work the crying and throwing things usually dose.

It just bothers me that antis are so keen to preclude me from adequately defending/protecting myself, yet they are silent when asked for other viable options. I believe that they are morally obligated to provide at least equally effective alternatives. I am unable to recall the source but I had read somewhere that Canada has a higher violent crime rate, per capita, than the United States. I just wish I could remember where I saw that claim ...

EDIT (again): You ever wake up from a nap and realize that what you posted before the nap was on the dumb side?
