I agree totally. We aren't here to make a dime or sell product. We aren't opining to try and get the OP to buy only what we like in order to feel inclusive to some secret society. We are only trying to do our best to steer someone in the direction we would a neighbor, a friend, or even family. What the OP does with this information is his choice. It's nice to have a choice.

Yea. I'm set on the caliber choice. I appreciate everyone's opinions and input. Always interesting to read. Not concerned about cost, I roll my own and the difference is only some powder so it's not going to break the bank. I don't plan on putting 1000 rounds down the tube every week and I'm not concerned about the recoil, I've shot 300 wm before. It was fun and I like heavier recoil in handguns and rifles because it really makes me hone in on my overall technique.

I would like to find an AR style rifle in .308 for my next long gun purchase though.

Back to the topic... What I'm gathering is Tikka or Savage is the way to go in my price range and possibly the Remington 700 is also an option. Between Tikka and Savage, which have better triggers/trigger options?

With a $500 to $600 budget and wanting a .300 mag you are pretty much stuck with a Savage. I would visit the savage site to determine what you can live with. Savage has a lot of models if you are buying new,
