Hi guys & gals,
I'm interested in a SBR and suppressed AR-15. I just dont like how long they get with the suppressor with it not being a SBR, So my question is for you guys if money was not an issue what would be the best setup? First off rifle: LWRC, POF... etc? Then for barrel length, what would you suggest for the optimal barrel length before the suppressor? and then finally the suppressor part of it, what would you recommend and why. Thanks a lot if you can help.

I can't offer much in the way of top-end brand advice, but logistically, you'd squeeze the most potential out of the weapon and still have a pretty compact package if you went with about a 12.5-14.5" barrel and a suppressor that reaches back over the barrel, like this one:
http://www.surefire.com/FA556AR-M4FA-Suppressor , which adds only 3.75" to the barrel length. That way, you've still got plenty of fragmentation range and decent velocity, with a total package that is about the length of an SPR. I really dig all that super-shorty AR stuff, but honestly, I don't like to spend a lot of money on stuff that won't be combat effective if the situation calls for it. Now if you were doing a pistol caliber suppressed AR, that's a different story! Then, you can go quite short and still have good ballistics for the cartridge you use.

I find a 12" a pretty good compromise. You can use a very effective suppressor and still have a reasonable OAL

I have made hits at 700 yards using this rifle and a TA11 ACOG.

Phillip builds a 5.56 Grunt mini suppressor that’s 5” long and weighs 14oz. But he just built a custom suppressor for a clients .308 13” POF and I really liked it. The customer requested for it to be short and be a large volume can. The end result is a billet one piece core .308 suppressor that recesses over the barrel (not a reflex suppressor). It’s 6” long, has a 2”
OD, with an added length to the barrel of 3.5”.

While its only my opinion I say you should go with a 10.5" SBR AR15 and use a quick attach can made from inconel with a muzzle brake mount as the mounting unit (serves as a sacraficial blast baffle)

Anything under 14.5" is VERY harsh on the 1st and 2nd baffle of a can, so make sure your suppressor is overengineered and a muzzle brake as the QD will help lessen the blast on the 1st baffle.

My 10.5" with M4-2000 is still shorter suppressed than a 16" carbine. Its a very balanced( with the sopmod stock) setup and very easy to maneuver.

Some Nice looking setups. Thanks for the Info thus far. What do you guys think about a LWRC 10.5'' M6A3. I like the fact it has the piston operated system and would be about the right length after the suppressor is added. I have read quite a few reviews on suppressors but over all what would be the quietest one out their for this rifle? Weight is not that big of a deal for me but overall performance would be Key. I think this would be a good contrast and a great PDW and also a blast to have at the range. Let me know what you think.

POF piston uppers, in the words of my gunsmith, have issues. IMHO, all piston uppers (so far) are bothersome as no standard exists.

Really? So you guys would recommend a dedicated gas impingement suppressed over the piston system? Personally I have No clue so any help would be great!

Yep, I'm a DI guy for an AR at this time. The issue isn't one of "best system", but rather every manufacture has different designs. As we saw with Sabre Defense going bankrupt, what happens when your piston AR maker changes the design or gets bought out, etc., etc. At best, your stuck with buying a new upper for your rifle.
