Ok well i am new to reloading. I have did a little way back in the day with my cousin, but mostly I just watched, so I dont recall anything. I have picked up the lee Modern reloading 2nd edition book and on my second time of reading it. Everything is getting clearer now.

I have pretty much decided on starting with a lee single stage press kit. But there are two that I have found and I am not sure which is the best bet. Both are the Lee Challenger Breech Lock Single Stage Press Anniversary Kit but one comes with the lee auto prime.
With out.

With Lee auto prime

I would just like to get your opinions on which one would be better to start with.

I guess I should add that I will be mostly loading pistol ammo...45acp and 40. Not big quantities. Hopefully one day get a few more things and start loading rifle ammo. Thanks.

Lee Kit

I got the 50th Anniversary for xmas. Really like it, it has the Lee Safety Primer both Large an Small. Also got the Lee Second Edition Manual. You won't go wrong either way you go, I just wanted to Prime on the press. Plan on getting a Classic Cast Turret later an use the single stage for decapping an primming.

One thing that you will need that doesn't come in the kit. A set of 6" calipers. Midway sell a decent digital set for about $30. There will be a few other things that you will want that you will figure out as time goes by. I am not real thrilled about the Lee scale. I prefer a RCBS. It has better quaility. And getting a accurate powder measurement is very important.

Thanks for the replies. Im a machinist so I have all of the calipers and indicators and stuff. And thats kind of what got me into reloading (I like working with my hands a lot).

One more thing. If you are planning on reloading bottle neck rifle, you will need a case trimmer. And if it doesn't come with the kit, a deburr tool.

Jwbfx4,

Between the two kits...get the one with the Autoprime. Recommend the Lee Carbide 4-die sets as well. They include a shellholder too.

Regards,

TB

Thanks twice barrel...I was definitely leaning toward that kit since all the reviews seemed good about the auto prime, also decided to go with the carbide dies as well.

I will add a case trimmer/debur tool later since I am just gone to start with handgun ammo right now. Thanks for the suggestions. Now just got to go get it ordered.
