I am looking for a new gun. It will be used for hog hunting and plinking out to 500yds. I know what I want in the gun but I don't know what fits my criteria.

1. .308
2. As close to a grand as possible. (less is better)
3. Barrel length 18 to 20 inches
4. Must be able to easily (cheaply) mount scope.
5. Doesn't have to be a tack driver but I do want to plink out to 500yds.
6. Detachable magazine.
7. Reliable

Looking for something along the lines of an AR10 or Fal. Is there anything that fits my criteria? Thanks for any input and suggestions.

TIA,
Justin

How important is the detachable mag and would you

be willing to go with a bolt gun? If so you have many choices. A gunsmith can shorten a bbl. to any legal length you want. 500 yards? This is where a bolt gun will shine. Spend 40% on a scope and mounts....My 2 cents..Essex

One to think about (bolt)

I had a Remington Sendaro in .308, except for the mag. & bbl. length it would really fit what you want to do. If you want a 500 yard gun try to find a Sendaro.

No Bolt

I already have a remington 700 in .308. I am going to be using this gun for hog hunting/ population control at my grandparents place. The problem with a bolt gun is that I can only get of about 2 shots before there gone. I am not looking to "spray and pray" just to kill hogs, if I wanted to do that I would buy another AK. I am just looking for something with faster follow up shots. I am looking for fun gun to shoot, if it can't reach out 500yds. that is okay.

Thanks for the replies,
Justin
