My son and I agree that it is not too early to start training my eldest grandson in the use of a .22. He is nine years old and he has received his "basic training," including fireams safety, using a BB gun. His issue is that he is too small to use, comfortably and correctly, any of the various .22s in the family armory. In fact, I had to shorten the stock on his BB gun for him to use it comfortably.
Any advice out there about a relatively inexpensive .22 we might give him as a Christmas gift after shortening the stock? Single shot would be quite acceptable, probably preferable, as he will be moving up to a Savage Anschutz Match 54 enroute other 22s and then larger calibers. Of course cost is a factor since we do not expect little Bob to use the rifle more than a year or so, and we do not expect it to be a "keeper." His further training will be at a range.
Thanx all, and Happy Holidays.
Jim
