I'm a newbe and would appreciate any advice from members who have experience with Rugre 10/22's and scopes.

I've been looking to get a Nikon 4X Prostaff rimfire scope for my Ruger 10/22. Was also looking to team it with Burris Sig. Zee rings.

What would be the best base to use with this set-up? I've heard that you may need to "lap" the rings....is that really needed for a rimfire scope installation? Can you self-install the scope or would it be best to leave the installation to a pro? Thanks!

Lapping is not usually necessary.

I've seen the $10 or so Weaver mount recommended time and again for the 10/22. I have some of the Burris rings you are looking at and they are certainly very good. I have a set on a Cooper .22.

Honestly, almost any kind of mount and rings will hold a rimfire scope. I've had very good success with BLK single rings and scopes as large as a Weaver T-36.

Putting a scope on a 10/22 should be a easy straight foward job that anyone could do unless your extrodinarily inept.

If you do get the Nikon scope, be sure to get your $30 rebate also.

JohnB,

Thanks for the advice. I did get the Nikon 4X scope, Weaver T09M base and Burris Signature Zee Rings. They installed easily and look great. I'm going to try to get the reticle leveled as best I can, then se how it does at 50 yards. Should be ok. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the info....got the Nikon 4X. It's a nice scope and mounting it was fairly easy. Thanks for your help.
