Need advice on Tikka T3

I have a T3 stainless in .243 win. Took it out of the box fired 1"moa with cheap factory ammo. Good feel on the action and trigger for me. Nothing to complain about with this rife. Go ahead and buy one you won't be sorry. The spare mags can be had at Bud's guns for around $55, if I recall. Yeah its not cheap but one spare mag is enough for me. The stock is not pretty but I have no problems with it. and for a feild gun you don't want a pretty stock anyway.

Just bought a .270 T3 Stainless Lite. I am anxiously waiting for the local rifle club to review and accept my application. I shouldered a lot of rifles before buying the Tikka the fact that the bolt on the tikka didn't hit me in the face was a big factor. I wasn't too excited about buying another non american firearm. (My last purchase was a benelli montefeltro)

I put a 3x9 Nikon Buckmaster BDC and a Harris Bipod on it. Absolutely giddy with anticipation.

My shooting buddy has four T3's and after listening to him rave about them I "pulled the trigger" on a 300WSM. While I'm not nuts about it's esthetics the rifle is stunningly accurate and very well made. Other than Savage I've not owned another rifle with this kind of OTB accuracy (using several brands and bullet weights) The synthetic stock is much stiffer than many of the 'tupperwear' factory offerings out there without that mushy "flex" in the forarm. Overall, it's a great rifle.

I have a Tikka T3 lite in 7mm remington mag. Yea the factory rings suck but most rifles dont come with rings from the factory, so its a moot point. I went with DNZ and couldnt be happier.

The action is very smooth and the gun is superbly accurate. I have yet to shoot over a 1.25" group @100yds with it, even with cheap winchester ammo.

My only gripe is the recoil pad. In a light gun, using a heavy recoiling caliber, you'll need an upgraded recoil pad.

+1 on the DNZ mount - perfect fit on my Tikkas, my 10/22, and my AR. I will never use another make again (unless I buy another Ruger that has their proprietary rings/bases).

I agree with that statement. The first thing I did after I shot mine was switch out to a Limbsaver and now I can shoot all day without complaining.

On the DNZ mount, did you guys go with the one piece mount or the two piece? I've been considering switching out from the factory rings and the one piece mount caught my attention.

I went with the one piece.

I own one in .243, and overall I love it.

The bad:

No aftermarket parts, I can't even find a replacement stock.
small ejection port
long action with bolt stop even with a short action cartridge
so-so recoil pad, but mine is in .243
lots of plastic, but well made plastic

The good:

very accurate. with handloads tailored for my rifle, I average .525 MOA. Shot several groups in the .2's and generally goes as high as .8.
small ejection port lends to a more rigid action which helps accuracy
very smooth
comes with rings which work well in softer kicking cartridges
fantastic trigger
1 MOA guaranty, if the manufacturer can be counted on

If you want a shooter get a Tikka, if you want a looker get something else. If you want a shooter and a looker, prepare to fork over serious money.

With its light weight I'd be more skeptical of this rifle in powerful cartridge.

I was reading somewhere that bell and Carlson is now making stocks for the tikka. I'll try to find where I saw that.
According to B&C's website they do not, at least in the Carbelite line of stocks, which is the cheapest line they make with the widest selection.

You got me curious, so I went and looked.

I'm not sure which stock it is but it's listed on their new products page. I think it was on 24hour campfire where I was reading it and there was some links in the post to get some dealers with discounted prices. I wish tikka would bring in the laminates again. I've got one in 7mag that I bought cause it was dirt cheap. If I had known what I was really buying at the time I would've bought several more instead of the zeiss diavari sitting on top of it.

As far as the cost of mags go, I was in my lgs the other day and the prices on tikka mags are within a few dollars of mags for other bolt action hunting rifles. Browning, Thompson, Remington etc. The cheapest I saw was the Remington and it was still $40.
I've been hunting with my tikka for 6 yrs now and never had any problems with the mag. Or the rifle either for that matter.

Same. It's a very clean looking mount. The screws that hold it to the top of the receiver are (mostly) hidden under the scope. Very pleased with mine so far (although, I doubt a 30-06 is a real "test" for any rings/mount).

I too was leery of the factory rings. Heard stories of the screw heads snapping off before it was tight enough, stories of the top band of the rings breaking off, etc. I never could duplicate those results (and the ones on my old .243 lasted me a whole deer season), but I replaced them when I saw a DNZ table at a local gun show. Got another one when I got the 30-06.

Really like what they have to offer and not just for the Tikkas.

My LH 308 is a slick little gun. Very light and consistently tack drivingly accurate. Chuck Hawks can disparage them if he likes, but I'm quite fond of mine.

Manners makes stocks for it. There is an after market bottom metal available that will allow use of ai mags. I believe ive seen bell and carlson stocks for it. Im sure ive sen at least three makers for stocks but im not on my pc right now, so im sure y'all can google it if you are so inclined.
