For discretely dispatching chipmunks. Living in the 'burbs, neighbors wouldn't appreciate gunfire and my son's air rifle trigger stinks. Dad needs a toy:D

What do you recommend?

Crossman 1322 or 1377

Or Benjamin makes one also.

I'd recommend making a small framed screen on legs about 3-4 inches high. Put some sunflower seeds on it and move it away from where the chipmunks are now over toward a place where they won't bother you. They're fun to watch and they won't bother anything if you pay them off like the little gangsters they are.

Killing them is a last resort. I keep a very low-powered BB gun for driving squirrels away when they encroach on the house too much. Doesn't injure them, but after a few shots they learn quick and keep away a discrete distance.

Guys, I am jumping in here because I have a similar need, but maybe a bit stronger punch required. I need something to repel dogs in a pack. I live in the country and using lethal force would be tolerated, but some of the dogs are owned by my neighbors. I need to convince the dogs to stay off my property and also away from me and my dogs (always on-leash) when we take our AM walks. Carrying a bb gun rifle would be cumbersome. Any model come to mind? Thanks and I do not mean to hijack the thread. Hoping my question is helpful to original poster, too.

I've found that firecrackers can be useful for frightening off dogs that are fighting on the front lawn, I'm not sure if that would be effective on country dogs or not.

I have some good pepper spray. 2 problems. Distance and wind. I do not want the encroaching dogs that close before repelling them. If it is windy or rainy, the spray is iffy.

Firecrackers would work well! Had not thought of that. But, not good if I am walking my dogs.

Discovered a Beeman brand air pistol. Is this a decent brand?

nobite....as far as i know there are no production air pistols powerful enough to cleanly and humanely take down a dog....

what i would recommend ( assuming the dogs are feral and you are legally able to take them)....would be a magnum air rifle

a .22 would be pushing it, a .25 would be better, however a .35 or a .50 would be ideal

really anything over 800 fps in the above calibers should be able to take down dog sized game

if youve got the money, these will do what you need

just take caution if you live in a place where airgun power is regulated, because i can guarantee you these would be over the limit.

if you are looking for something to startle the dogs and not actually cause any damage....i would suggest looking into an airsoft gun

something like this should be enough to startle and scare off the dogs, but really any airsoft gun that shoots at or over 350 fps should be fine.

with something like this, youll have an effective range of about 100 feet which should be more than enough for what your looking for.

I think you are on to something here! I might end up being able to use current holsters! That would be awesome. I will check these out. Thanks for this great tip!

And to make shooting at home fun

Get a clipboard, about 1.50 at office max.

Lay it down on some partical board, draw the outline and cut it.

get some 1 x 4 board, cut it and screw it to the board to make a box.

Buy 4 blocks of electricians putty, it will fit crosswise in the box.

Place the clipboard on the box and screw it down, now cut a hole just about an inch around of the edges.

Clip a target on the board (printed off your computer)

You now have a silent pellet trap. Go to the basement and have fun.

Below is a nice one

If you're looking for a non-lethal carry option you simply cannot beat an arisoft gun. Dboys makes a Knights Armament PDW replica that shoots at about 400 FPS, it's electric so all you gotta do is plug it inot the wall. and with the stock unfolded the whole package is only 17 inches long. 300 6mm plastic BB in the mag. mags are pretty cheap as airsoft mags go at about $11 for an extra 300 rounder. Each bb will leave a nice sized welt on bare flesh at about 30 feet or so and it's full auto.

OP: I own a Daisy Powerline 901. The trigger has quite a bit of pre-travel and a bit of wobble but for $100 it's pretty accurate once you get it zeroed. I think it'd be worth takin a look at.

Many great responses and the indoor trap idea is fantastic, too. But, my decision may surprise you!

Low tech. I got a sling shot.

While at the local Gander Mountain looking at some of the options described here, I spied the simple $15 solution.

I dont really like the idea of a slingshot for this... its not going to be as accurate as the airsoft, it takes time to reload (or load in the first place) and if you are walking dog(S) on leashes, you will be 1 hand short unless you can hold your dogs totally still while loading, aiming and shooting at the oncoming pack. :-|

Paint ball guns are great. Used mine several times.
The shot startles the dog then there's a sting to go with it.
The owner will see his multi-colored dog and hopefully figure out to keep it under control.
