I'm looking for a load for my glock 19 in either 115gr or 147 gr that is comparable to WWB in power. I'd like to keep the cost per thousand as low as possible as I'm going through about 500-1000 a week in WWB at about 14 with tax factored in. I've got about 10k rounds of once fired 9mm stored up and have started depriming them.

I'm completely new to reloading and am going to be starting off with a Rock Chucker single stage until I get the hang of reloading and move to a progressive to handle the amount of ammo I like to shoot in a few months.

Any suggestions, including loads and where to get my components would be appreciated.

Thomas

powder and primers are usually best found locally, cause hazmat charges can really beat ya down.

for bullets- i've had good luck with rainer plated. try cabelas or midwayusa. Berry's plated is also good.

You'll have fun developing them, but I think that 9 is just about as cheap to buy (especially State Bid CCI) as to load it with Berry's or any other plated bullet. I suppose if you buy in enough bulk, you can save something, but I can't imagine it's a whole lot. I use that same bullet for .357 Sig and I think quite a bit is saved there as I can load it for 9mm prices.

Buy things in bulk
Powder in 8# jugs a low charge wt powder like Titegroup is a good choice.
Plated or jacketed bullets in as large qty as possible.
Primers in 5K lots.

On ebay there are deals with taking advantage for bullets.
Jacket WW can be found delivered 56K per k.

Cabelas is a good choice for bullets as the shipping is based upon $ of order vs. as wt.

My costs for 9mm
78 per K because I got a good deal on 10K of 115gr FMJ last summer and that beats Wally World by a big margin!

Two good consistant loads (SD of 10 FPS) I've chrono'd that run close to Winchester USA are:

5.2gr Unique, 115gr Remington JHP, Federal SPP, Misc cases was 1,150 fps from my Glock 19

4.2gr Red Dot, 115gr Rem JHP, WSP primer, S&B cases, 1,134 fps from my Beretta 92

FWIW velocity from the Glock 19 is equal to or a few FPS faster than the Beretta for those loads I've ran through both despite the shorter barrel.

Either powder is pretty economical with the Unique being more flexible if you want to run up the velocity.

If I can reload for even 90 per k i'll be saving about 40 per k on average over buying locally or ordering online most of the time. There's a cabela's close by so I can make a trip there to get stuff. The rest of my kit should arrive this week so I'm just ready to get going and reloading. I have an ancient lee hand loading kit that I've been using to resize and decap rounds while I surf the net and watch tv. My tumbler arrived at about 7 this evening with UPS and I've started tumbling the decapped and resized brass. I work part time at a gun range so I cannot wait to start picking up all the .223 and .308 brass and bringing it home to reload. We've got a lot of precision shooters that shoot a lot of .338 lapua magnum with the nice lapua brass and tons with lapua .308 brass that just leave it sitting around. I already pick up quite a bit but I'm thinking about getting a dump pouch for my belt so I can liberate more brass.

Only thing I load for my 9mm is 4.6 grains of W-231 under a Winchester 115 grain JHP with a WSP primer. Gives me a little over 1000 fps out of a 3.3 inch barrel.

You may want to check out Berry's bullets.

You can get 1K 115g RN plated for $48 with NO shipping or tax. Primers and powder seem to be going up but buy in bulk and use a dense powder and you'll easily stay under $90 per K.

I think if you'll check, Berry's also charges you a lead surcharge which is essentially .30 a lb which is the going rate. The $48.00 must pay for plating because the additional charge coveres the lead that is in them. I use Berry's but the price on thier site isn't accurate.

I just ordered some .357 and .40 S&W bullets from them yesterday and the confirmation email I received had no surcharge listed. If they're going to bill me for some unknown amount later that's an awful poor way to do business.

Here's from the email they sent me:
ITEMS
Item: 158 GR FP DS(Box of 250)
Code: 845-252
Price: $17.49
Qty: 1
Total: $17.49

Item: 155 GR FP(Box of 250)
Code: 843-521
Price: $18.49
Qty: 1
Total: $18.49

SubTotal: $35.98
Tax: $0.00
Shipping: $0.00
Total: $35.98

Hmm, that's good news. I ordered 1000 not more than about a month ago and got dinged for it. Hopefully, they have stopped this practice.

Today, Berry's website says the charge is 40 cents per pound. I've ordered from them a couple of times. Not sure if the surcharge was on the confirmation e-mail, but I thought they made it clear that there would be a surcharge and how much it would be.

saving money on 9MM in a Glock

1. Buy an after market barrel to prevent kabooms.

2. Do a serrosafe casting of your chamber and barrel

3. Buy a lead casting setup. Go to castboolits.com to find out how to do this.

4. Buy a Lee six hole mold that matches your barrel dimensions. Again, check with the folks at castboolits on what diameter bullet you need.

5. Cast your own bullets.

Why cast your own? Because the bullet is the big price equation on reloading. If you scrounge wheel weights, you can shoot most any pistol cartridge for less than $2.50 a box.

The last bullets I bought were from Graf and Sons. They were Berry's plated. The shipping was free but they added a $3 handling charge to the order. Still not a bad deal. One of my favorite loads is Berry's 115 RN with 4 grains of Titegroup. Shoots very well in my CZ.
