Need an LED flashlight

(Do NOT use a Xenon for a 5-cell MagLite! It will "pop" when you turn the light on!)

I have about 20 hours on my MagNum Star Xenon 5 cell bulb with the same setup you mention. No problems at all. The Krypton bulbs poped after about an hour on mine.

Here is a 3-watt LED conversion for D-cell maglite. Cost under $20. There are 5-watt conversions out there but cost a little more.

I have switched my two old D-cell Mag-Lites to the 3-watt Mag-lite brand bulbs in the last few months. One is a two cell, and the other is a three cell.

I am very satisfied with them. Much brighter long range spot, but probably not quite as adjustable as the old incandescent bulbs for flood light.

I also converted a Mini-Mag some time back with an off-brand LED (don't remember the brand, but Wally-world sells them) and it is a total waste of money.

I am very happy with my Streamlite Stylus for a small shirt-pocket light I carry all the time. Only problem with it is it uses AAAA batteries, which are hard to find, and expensive. (but they last forever)

I too am very satisfied. I also agree that buying an "off-brand" conversion LED is a VERY bad idea. I bought one and it didnt work...returned it to the store for an exchange. That one didnt work either. I went Lowe's and bought the Maglite conversion LED for $18 and it works like a champ. Went back and bought another one for the maglite in my car.

I use the 6-cell Xenon bulbs without trouble, but have read reports of the 5-cell Xenons failing when overdriven. Glad yours is working for you!

When this Xenon finally goes (I don't use the light very much, as it's too bright for most applications), I'll try the 5-cell Krypton and find out for myself.

Regards,
Dirty Bob
