Need avice on reinforcing an interior door for gun storage

Unfortunately, the wall will remain the weak spot. I have a "hard room" off my bedroom, but it was built from the framing for that purpose. Double sheathed walls, with sheet rock on top of OSB. 3- 2x4 studs securing door frame, solid core security door, 6" screws securing frame to the studs, steel plate screwed in place under the molding to spread out the load of the dead bolt.

Noxx has the right idea. I would strip the drywall inside the room, sheath the wall with 3/4" ply, and re- drywall. Nail expanded metal over the studs first if you like, then screw the plywood to them. Buy an industrial steel door, one of the ugly gray painted one, with a slip-on drywall frame.(steel, it is designed to slide over the drywall and framing.) You can order the frame to a custom thickness if you need it, or maybe a standard thickness will work. This makes a VERY strong door, you can sand off the paint and veneer it if you like. (gets a bit involved, I just did two that look like a lovely wood paneled door.) Or just paint it. These are NOT the cheap steel doors from Home Despot;) they are a commercial product- about $500 with a frame but I suspect you could find them much cheaper through a used building material place.
If the door opens out, use a pin in place of two of the hinge screws.

Don't forget about "lock bumping". To counter this relatively new threat, you need a decent deadbolt, like a Medeco.

These are around $100 each (!) but they remove the lock as the weakest link and make the BG's shift their efforts somewhere else, such as your nice reinforced steel door in its steel frame, mounted with long screws into the reinforced walls.

I believe if you have a functional alarm system (and don't create false alarms so you never get a response from the police), combined with "hardening" steps as described in the many posts above, you have something that will discourage everyone but a professional with a plan.

Very, very hard to counter a determined, equipped professional. Try not to be interesting to such people.
