I have been looking for a backup shotgun for upland and duck. My preference is a Maxus with 26" barrel with synthetic furniture. My local shop has a couple Maxus with synthetic furniture, 28" barrel for $1089 and when I inquired about ordering one with a 26" barrel the price was around $1300 due to new 2010 pricing they claim. They also told me they would make me a deal on the 28" ones in stock.

Now to throw another factor in I have a good friend trying to sell me his slightly used browning gold with synthetic furniture and 28" barrel for around $750.

I had talked myself into the 26" barrel for ease of use in the field and they swing better for me. I am up in the air if 2" is worth the price difference. (insert your own joke here).

I usually hunt upland with 7/8 or 1oz #6 shot. Will the gold cycle these?

I am interested in peoples experiences with both of these shotguns and their thoughts. I know there are other great semi autos on the market but I am set on my brownings.

Thanks

Jeff

I shot clays with my golden hunter for a year or two, only problem I had was I never could make it through 2 rounds {200} without having to clean gun to finnish when shooting 1 oz loads. Not really a problem, just carried steel wool and gun spray with me. If I was shooting 1 1/8 oz loads no problem at all. Some times I would just switch to heavier loads to finnish, so like I said no problem. Great gun and I would probably still shoot it, but I picked up a Double Auto and a B80. Love the double auto!!! Back to op imho you can't go wrong with the Gold Hunter
